Course description:

- Geometry is the mathematics of the properties, measurements, and relationships of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids. Students in the honors course must be capable of grasping abstract mathematical concepts rapidly and have a minimum Algebra II average of 92 plus teacher recommendation. We will cover the entire text: Geometry (Glencoe © 2004). Scientific calculators are required. (TI-30X IISis recommended.)

Tests and Quizzes:

- Tests will be announced at least three days in advance and will be worth 100 points. If the student is absent the day of the test, they will complete the test on the day they return to class. If you are absent for an extended period of time, you will need to make arrangements with the teacher to make up the test.

- Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.

* Students who are legally absent from school will have 1 day for each day absent in which to complete missed assignments and exams.

Homework:

-Homework will be assigned almost every class. All homework is due the next scheduled class period. Periodically, and unannounced, assignments will be checked and marked as complete, partial, or no credit.

All work must be shown to receive full credit. These points are counted in the overall point total. (If absent, students are allowed to hand in assignments(assigned the day of absence) late.) Students are responsible for showing me these assignments. Homework should be completed in pencil.

* Homework provides an opportunity for the student to practice and reinforce the new concepts learned in class.

Notebook:

- Each student is required to keep a notebook or a binder, which will include both class notes and homework assignments. Notes will be given and are to be copied and DATED. Students are responsible for any missed notes. This notebook should be kept up to date for any unexpected notebook quizzes.

Grading:

- Grading is based on a total point system. Each test, quiz, homework, and assignment will be worth a certain amount of points. At the end of the quarter, the number of points you earned will be divided by the total points you could have earned and changed to a percentage. It is recommended that the students keep track of their own grades.

Class Participation:

- Students will be required to participate in class discussions and stay alert during class.

Extra Credit:

- Each student has the opportunity to earn extra credit on their overall marking quarter point total. The extra credit projects will vary by marking quarter and will be explained in detail in class (typically 4 weeks prior to the due date.) There are also bonus problems on most tests.

- BOOKS WILL BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES. Graffiti is unacceptable. Students will be charged for damaged and/or missing books. I may randomly check to see if books are covered as an assignment grade.

- Work is expected to be legible and neat. Students are expected to have a pencil for my class.

- The student is responsible for being ON TIME and PREPARED for class, when the bell rings!!! This means that they should be in their seat, with their books and their notebooks open to the previous days homework, pencils sharpened, and ready to begin. The ‘Bell Ringer’ problem for that day will be up and should be dated and solved upon arrival.

- The student will treat all teachers and fellow students with RESPECT at all times!! (No talking back, arguing with others, disrupting class, etc.) The student will also treat all objects in the classroom with respect (i.e. desks, chairs, computers, etc.) If ANY DAMAGE is done in my room, the student will be responsible for paying for the damage.

- If the student is absent, he/she is responsible for any and all work missed.

- There will be consequences if you choose to break a rule.

- The lav pass is a privilege: You abuse it, you lose it.
