The organisation
Unlocked is a new and groundbreaking scheme which will hire top graduates and career changers to work in prisons as officers for two years, focusing on breaking cycles of re-offending and giving second chances to those who lacked opportunities earlier in life. Participants will also engage in rigorous training and leadership development throughout the programme. The skills they learn will propel them into leadership roles in a range of sectors when they complete the scheme.
The role
The External Relations Director will be a member of the senior leadership team at Unlocked Graduates. The External Relations Director will deliver Unlocked’s communications and external relations strategy, taking ultimate responsibility for all marketing and partnership activities within the organisation.
Key accountabilities
We are looking for someone who is:
- An experienced communicator, able to oversee and execute our media strategy, managing the support relationship with our incubating organisation and the press office they are able to provide, as well as working closely with the civil service press office
- Be an exceptional network builder, able to quickly develop strong relationships with corporate partners to offer employment opportunities to our participants
- Work closely with the Recruitment Director on our brand development, overseeing our corporate brand
- Highly values led, with a strong track record of communicating on difficult, politically sensitive and important topics
- Fundraise from private individuals and corporate partners
- Well networked within the media, able to draw on a broad pool of contacts to bring Unlocked’s story to life
- Act as a spokesperson for Unlocked
- Oversee our positioning on policy
- Line manage a team
- Oversee budgets
- Act as a role model to build a strong culture across the whole organisation
Person specification
We are looking for someone who is
- Committed to Unlocked mission and values
- Operationally experienced in a fast paced, entrepreneurial setting
- Highly analytical
- Effective at working across teams of various stakeholders by using excellent interpersonal skills
- Highly aspirational, both on an individual level, and for our organisation
- Extremely organised
- Qualified to degree level and above
- Right to work in the UK
