Innovation Cluster Cyber and Information Security
Short Concept note
BOOST Global Innovation & Cyber and Information Security
Cyber opponents have offered a full spectrum of threats not only to the governments, but also to private business sector and critical infrastructures, where illicit malevolent internet activity – aimed at a profit gain, hacktivism and espionage spreads.
BOOST Global Innovation (BGI) contributes to enhancing the security and resilience of the nation’s critical information infrastructure and the Internet by actively participating in establishment and development of centres focusing on cyber and information security.
BGI there provides managerial, capacity-building and administrative support. It also delivers various types of support to the centres mission, including project management, fund raising, facility management and technology transfer services that contribute to efforts to devise, test, and demonstrate integrated technical solutions to difficult cyber-security challenges.
It is about what kind of society you want to live in, it is about your economy, private business sector and critical infrastructure ability to survive, and it is about our government’s ability to protect us, to protect our welfare and to protect our privacy. We believe that all countries today need to develop their education and research capacity to meet this future.
We are capable and ready to find the best consortium in Slovakia in developing these arenas.
Brief Project Description
Establish or strengthen Innovation Cluster based on Cyber and Information Security to encourage the innovative activity through the promotion of the common use of equipment and specialized knowledge and through effective contributions towards knowledge transfer, contact setting, information dissemination and collaboration between enterprises and the other organizations within the cluster.
Goal at this stage
Analyze, discuss and find partners for strengthening or establishing an innovation cluster on Cyber and Information Security.
Our Network and Some Relevant References
Center for Cyber and Information Security
Together with Gjøvik University College and a consortium of 25 partners, BOOST Global Innovation has contributed in establishing the Norwegian Centre for Cyber and Information Security – CCIS.
The key national cyber security stakeholders had initiated a partnership to establish a national centre for research, training, and education in cyber- and information security, which was finally opened in 2014. Today, the Center operates with a core group of 25 scientists of a total of 70-80 people, including non-permanent and adjunct positions as for instance Ph.D. students and post-docs. In addition, there is 200-300 bachelor and master students at the Centre, enrolling various programs.
In Connection to CCIS We Have access to the Following Activities in The Network
Biometrics
The activity in the biometry group in CCIS is based around the Norwegian Biometrics Laboratory (NBL, ( and its long lasting partnership with the Norwegian ID Centre.
NBL is an active member in the European Association for Biometrics and co-organizer of the
Cyber Defense
CCISs group in cyber defense is established collaboration with Gjøvik University College, Norwegian Cyber Defense Norwegian Cyber Defense Academy, and Norwegian Defense Research Establishment. The implementation of network based defense has introduced both new opportunities and threats in military operations.
Critical Infrastructure
CCISs group in Critical Information Infrastructure protection is established in collaboration with Eidsiva, Gjøvik University College, NC-Spectrum, Statkraft, Statnett, and Telenor. Resilience and redundancy of national infrastructure has become a part of national security and critical information infrastructure protection has emerged as a field of great interest in cyber security. This is among other things due to the privatization of national infrastructure, the cost of developing and operating parallel infrastructures, and the lack of fallback options in case of infrastructure failure. Initially the focus of the research group will be on application in the energy and smart grid systems.
Information Security Management
Information Security Management Group performance both theoretical, empirical and applied research on the modeling measuring and managing of technical and procedural problems and solutions in the information security management area. The group has a special responsibility for the information’s security management track of the MSc at University College Gjøvik. Consequently it’s research based teaching methods bring together a broad spectrum of socio-technical systems security research results that cover the social, organizational, psychological, legal, ethical, cultural, political, rhetorical educational and technical aspect of cyber- and information security management.
Testimony Forensics
Partners within the Testimon Forensics Group bring in diverse backgrounds and expertise from academia, the public and private sector. Most prominent are the Norwegian police agencies, i.e. the Norwegian Police University College (Politihøgskolen), Norway’s National Criminal Investigation Service (KRIPOS), the Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM), the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (ØKOKRIM), the Norwegian Police Directorate (POD), and other regional law enforcement agencies, e.g. the Oslo and VestopplandPolitidistrikt.
COINS
COINS is a national research school of Computer and Information Security. COINS integrates Norwegian research groups in Information Security to a larger entity by integrating the course portfolio for research school members, builds stronger relationships between doctoral students in the network, establishes more incentives to excel and increases student mobility through access to a larger network. COINS also increases Norway’s international student mobility, hosts internationally recognised researchers, and offers “free flow of goods and services” in Information Security Research in Norway. COINS intends to have 40 PhD students at any given time. Participants in the research school include HøgskoleniGjøvik, NTNU, University of Oslo, University of Bergen, University of Agder, University of Stavanger, and University of Tromsø. COINS is led by CCIS / NISlab at Gjøvik University College.
BOOST Global Innovation has relevant network within both public bodies, R&D and private sector within Cyber and Information Security. We work with companies within specific sectors as well: Water Supply, Hydro Power and so forth.
Partners And Interest In Slovakia?
With the above short introduction BGI will discuss possible ways into cooperation to help reach the goals for Slovakia in this sector. At this stage the financing scheme for EEA in Slovakia seems relevant.
