Director of University Police

Job Details:

This is a full-time, annual appointment with the period of employment beginning on June 1, 2016. Position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services and is a member of the Administrative Services Leadership Team.

Qualifications:

1.  An earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required with a major in criminal justice or related field.

2.  Certification by DOJ as a “law enforcement” officer or equivalent to the State of WI. WI certification is required within 4 months of hire.

3.  Demonstrated supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency with a minimum of 3 years as a direct supervisor of one or more law enforcement officers is required.

4.  Demonstrated management experience, emergency planning/ICS experience and community policing required.

5.  Demonstrated skills in time management, prioritizing, managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines required.

6.  Demonstrated understanding, commitment to, or experience with under-represented groups and initiatives that enhance inclusive environments is required.

The successful candidate must complete a background check, a physical and a psychological evaluation prior to employment.

Responsibilities:

The director of University Police (the chief) at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville is the lead law enforcement officer responsible for providing leadership in the planning, management and administration of all police, security, parking and emergency response functions. The chief works closely within the Administrative Affairs division, with the university community, with other law enforcement organizations, and the University of Wisconsin System. The director must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
