SAILING INSTRUCTIONS AND RACE RULES

1. QUALIFYING YACHTS

Entries will be restricted to Trailer Yachts (as defined by YNZ Yacht Racing Rules and Safety Regulations), Keelers and Multihulls. The races will be sailed in four divisions as follows:

DIVISION 2- Trailer Yachts over 5 metres, open division. [Blue] DIVISION 3- Fixed Keel Yachts and Multihulls, restricted (no extra sails). [Green]

DIVISION 4 - Fixed Keel Yachts up to 10 metres, open division. [Orange]

DIVISION 5 – Fixed Keel Yachts over 10 metres, open division (Black)

Note: A minimum of three yachts is required to form a division.

2. DIVISION FLAGS

All yachts participating in the race shall fly their division flag on either their back or side stays. Minimum size 200mm x 200mm.

3. RACE RULES

Both races will be sailed under the current YNZ Yacht Racing Rules, except as altered by these sailing instructions.

4. SAFETY REGULATIONS

Trailer Yachts shall comply with current NZTYA Safety Regulations for Trailer Yachts Category B.

Fixed Keel Yachts and Multihulls shall comply with YNZ Category 4 Safety Regulations, excluding dinghy. If life lines are not fitted, life jackets shall be worn.

All yachts shall carry sufficient fuel for at least four (4) hours motoring.

All yachts shall carry either an Installed Marine or a Handheld waterproof marine multichannel VHF Radio.

The declaration on the entry forms shall be signed by all skippers. Unsigned declarations will result in the particular entry not being accepted.

Specific attention is also drawn to the YNZ Safety Regulations of Sailing 2013-16 in general and to Part II Rule 2.0 and Part V Rule 2.0 of those regulations, relating to Owners Responsibility.

A yacht may be inspected at any time.

5. HANDICAP

Handicapping will be at the discretion of the handicapper using information from past performances where possible.

6. CREWS

Each yacht in open divisions shall carry at least three people over the age of 14 years. Each yacht in restricted divisions shall carry at least two people over the age of 14 years.

7. TROPHIES

Will be awarded to line and handicap winners of each division at the annual prize giving of the Marsden Yacht and Boat Club.

8. START AND TIME

Skippers shall identify their yacht to the starter prior to the 5 minute preparatory signal for their divisions otherwise after the start. Please note that this is an important safety precaution.

START TIMES: All Divisions 10.00am.

START LINE:

The start line will be set off the Marsden Yacht & Boat Club at One Tree Point, between a start boat and a start buoy. The start line may be moved if the conditions are unsuitable or the race may be restarted at a different location through lack of wind. Notification will be via VHF Channel 77.

9. COURSE RESTRICTIONS

All yachts shall leave No. 16 Buoy to starboard. On the return race leave No.16 Buoy to port.

10. STARTING PROCEDURE

CLASS FLAGS: All Divisions will be started with code flag K

.

STARTING: 5 minutes - Class Flag raised.

4 minutes - P Flag raised.

1 minute – P Flag lowered.

Start – Class Flag lowered.

11. POSTPONEMENT

If the start is postponed the Red and White Striped Answering Pennant will be flown accompanied by 2 sound signals. It will be lowered 1 minute before the deferred start accompanied by 1 sound signal

12. FINISH LINE

The finish line will be set at the entrance to Tutukaka Harbour. All yachts shall pass between South Gable on the northern side and Red Rock on the south side of the entrance. Times will not be taken of any yachts which pass to the south of Red Rock. Times will be taken from the Motel Grounds on the southern headland and a blue finish flag will be flown.

13. TIME LIMIT

Each yacht must complete the race within 8 hours.

14. UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER

Notification of the cancellation of the race due to bad weather conditions may be confirmed by phoning the OOD after the 0715 hrs weather forecast on the morning of the race. In the event of cancellation or postponement, this will be broadcast on More - FM soon after the forecast.

15. COURSE AND SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS

(A) That withdrawing yachts notify race officials or any escort boat as soon as possible to the time of withdrawal.

(B) It is recommended that all entries file trip reports with Whangarei Coastguard, Channel 83 on departure and with Tutukaka Coastguard, Channel 85 when off Taiharuru Head

16. ENTRIES will close at 1630 hours on Friday 17 April 2015. Late entries will be received prior to the 5 min. Starting Signal, subject to payment of an additional late entry fee of $15.

Entries can be posted to Tutukaka Race Convenor, Marsden Yacht and Boat Club, PO Box 9, Ruakaka, or left at All Marine, Port Road or e:mailed to the Race Officer.

18. PROTESTS

Protests shall be written on forms provided, on request, by the Marsden Yacht and Boat Club.

19. MARINA BERTHS

1. Tutukaka - If yachts intend mooring in the marina area, they must arrange this through the Marina Management (Ph 4343441, during working hours).

2. Marsden Cove – Berths available over night prior to the race. Make bookings on Ph. 4327740

20. MEMBERSHIP

All skippers are required to be current financial members of a YNZ affiliated club in order to enter these two races.

21 AFTER RACE PRIZE GIVING

The prize giving following the Saturday race will be held at the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club. The time will depend on the time of the last finishing vessel. You are guests of the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club, and will require a member to sign you in. An acceptable standard of behaviour will apply. It is not permitted to take any liquor onto these premises.

22 COMMUNICATION

Radio communication channel on race days will be Channel 77 unless otherwise advised by the race organisers.

RETURN RACE

Sunday 19 April 2015

"Supported by the Tutukaka South Pacific Yacht Club"

This takes place on Sunday for yachts sailing back to One Tree Point and the entry fee is included in the fee already paid. Tutukaka South Pacific Yacht Club Trophies will be awarded at the annual prize giving for placings on handicap for each division.

The same rules apply as on the previous day's race.

START TIME: 10.00 hrs - ALL DIVISIONS

START LINE: This will be between a Committee Boat displaying an orange flag and a starting line buoy. The Start Line will be set in the outer reaches of Pacific Bay inside Red Rock at the entrance to Tutukaka Harbour

FINISH LINE In the main channel of Whangarei Harbour, between the cable marker on Snake Bank and a blue flag located at a dwelling on the southern side of the harbour approximately 1.7.km west of the western end of the Marsden Point Port log wharf.
