Job Purpose

The Rowing Services Manager is responsible for assisting in the planning, organisation, management and delivery of the sport competition and related services across the 2018 European Rowing Championships, working in conjunction with the Rowing Sport Competition Manager to ensure the sport services are delivered in line with FISA (World Rowing Federation) Rules and Regulations, as well as the project plan for Glasgow 2018.

Term of contract: 30.04.2018 – 17.08.2018

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver the following functions within Rowing Competition Management at Glasgow 2018:
  • Athlete Services
  • Sport Information
  • International Federation Services
  • Results Distribution
  • Manage the process of scheduling, training and communicating with Rowing Sport Specific Volunteers.
  • Assist in the communication with and training of National Technical Officials (NTOs).
  • Assist in the preparation and production of sport publications for the Championships, including the team manager manual, official programme, technical official’s handbook and other relevant publications and operational documents.
  • Assist with the co-ordination of requirements for the official timing, scoring and results system for the Championships.
  • Support the Rowing Competition Manager with the procurement, delivery, installation and management of all sport equipment required to deliver the Championships.
  • Provide input into the build and layout of the sport spaces on venue.
  • Work closely with the venue management team at Strathclyde Country Park in relation to the delivery of sport competition requirements.
  • Assist with the planning of the rowing athlete medical and anti-doping programme.
  • Contribute to the post event reporting processes and assist with knowledge transfer within both Glasgow 2018 and British Rowing.
  • Support the Rowing Competition Manager in all work streams and represent the interests of Rowing Competition Management with other Functional Areas within Glasgow 2018.
  • Work closely with the Rowing Competition Manager to ensure all relevant Glasgow 2018 policies and procedures are followed by members of the rowing team.
  • Undertake other related duties and manage projects as delegated by the Rowing Competition Manager.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Excellent administration and project management skills.
  • Proven event management experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Report writing and presentational skills.
  • Experience of organising national and international events.
  • Previous experience of managing volunteers at large events.
  • Experience of making logistical arrangements and producing supporting documentation.
  • A good working knowledge of sport competition, operations and logistics to effectively assist in the delivery of rowing specific competition elements.
  • Flexible approach to work, resilient and able to work under pressure.
  • Computer literate, with experience of Microsoft office software.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of FISA technical requirements for Rowing at major events.
  • Project management skills and experience within the sport and event sector.
  • Experience of working with FISA and knowledge of their structure and operation, an advantage.
  • Experience of working with British Rowing and knowledge of its structure and operation at domestic and international events.
  • Knowledge of the structure of British and Scottish Rowing and the wider UK Sporting landscape.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Demonstrable ability to implement innovation to event delivery.
  • Ability to communicate conversationally across one or two European languages would be beneficial.

Additional Information

Standard working hours are 9:00 to 17:00 although flexibility is required in order to ensure core objectives are achieved. National travel may be required.
