Red Wines

1) Vicuña Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Central Valley (Chile) £9.75

Soft and full, with juicy red and black fruits in this classic combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A very easy style with an element of ripe Claret about it.

2) Alto Pampas Pinot Noir, Mendoza (Argentina) £10.50

The grapes are grown in higher altitude vineyards to keep freshness, so the wine shows fine, very pure New World Pinot fruit with typical leafy, raspberry flavours and soft, ripe tannins.

3) Freedom Cross Pinotage, Coastal Region (South Africa) £11.85

The product of a crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, Pinotage is South Africa's unique grape. This example is softly styled with intense blackberry fruit and mocha coffee notes.

4) House of Certain Views Shiraz, Orange, Margan Wines (Australia) £15.25

We can't be certain what views Andrew Margan gets from his house; hopefully they're as stunning as this wine. Blackberry fruit meets smoky bacon and wait for those soft, silky tannins to kick in.

5) Rioja Vega, Crianza Tinto, White Label (Spain) £16.75

The winery at Rioja Vega was overhauled in 2001 and their wines have surged forward. From Tempranillo with a little Mazuelo and Garnacha, this smooth, soft, richly-fruited red, has spice and vanilla from 12 months in American oak.

6) Château d'Argadens, Bordeaux Supérieur (France) £19.00

Purchased in 2002 by Sichels, this property is situated in the Entre-deux-Mers. The excellent terroir produces robust and soft fruited wines with concentration and balance. d'Argadens is one of the best Bordeaux Supérieur around.

7) Aglianico del Vulture DOC, Le Ralle, Alovini (Italy) £19.75

A deep crimson colour, smoky aromas and damson fruit balanced by soft tannins make this a distinctly fine wine. These Aglianico grapes are grown at around 1,500 feet in the area around the inactive volcano of Monte Vulture.

8) Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine du Rempart (France) £35.75

A lighter Châteauneuf with ripe fruit and nice herby, spicy, bramble notes and a soft round palate.

White Wines

9) Vicuña Semillon/Sauvignon, Central Valley (Chile) £9.75

A deliciously crisp, classic combination from the sunny Central Valley of Chile, wedged between the mountains and the sea. An aromatic and flavour-filled white for easy drinking.

10) WideRiver Chenin Blanc, Robertson (South Africa) £10.00

Clean and bright Chenin Blanc, peppery and aromatic, with tropical fruit flavours of ripe fig and melon backed up with crisp, refreshing acidity. Modern style wine from the fertile RobertsonValley.

11) Amanti del Vino, Pinot Grigio, Delle Venezie IGT (Italy) £11.75

Pinot Grigio from northern Italy is the dry white wine of the moment! This one, from near Venice, is crisp, refreshing and unoaked.

12) Tierra de Luna Blanco Chardonnay/Torrontes, Mendoza £13.00

(Argentina)

A very appealing wine with a delicate floral nose, fresh and lemony fruit flavours, lively acidity and weight from the Chardonnay, aromatics and zest from the Torrontes.

13) House of Certain Views Chardonnay, Hunter Valley (Australia) £14.00

This flavoursome white is made by Andrew and Lisa Margan from grapes sourced from contacts around the HunterValley. It is wellbalanced with just a touch of creamy oak.

14) C J Pask Sauvignon Blanc, Hawke's Bay (New Zealand) £15.75

A typical New Zealand Sauvignon with opulent, ripe, tropical fruit and all the classic Sauvignon character one could wish for. This is from a winery on the outskirts of Hastings run by dynamic duo, Chris Pask and Kate Radburnd.

15) Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett, Kurt Hain (Germany) £24.75

Big, flavoursome Kabinett, soft and herby, fresh and open with ripe, elegant fruit. Good, concentrated wine from a dedicated and serious young grower.

16) Chablis 1er cru Vau de Vey, Domaine des Valery (France)

£36.00

Stylish wine coming from the steep, stony Vau de Vey vineyard. It has finesse of bouquet and a crispness.

Rose Wines

17) Pato Torrente Merlot Rosé, Central Valley (Chile) £11.25

This is an off-dry, fruity rosé, with plenty of strawberry flavours and lively, refreshing acidity.

18) Angel's Flight White Zinfandel, California (USA) £13.00

A juicy refreshing rosé packed full of crushed strawberry and raspberry fruit. The finish is well balanced with a hint of sweetness.

Champagne & Sparkling Wines

19) Prosecco, Vetriano (Italy) £15.00

An attractive biscuity nose leads onto a bright fruity palate with hints of pears and melon. Prosecco is the grape variety as well as the style of the wine.

20) Rosé d'une Nuit, Cuvée Clémente, Méthode Traditionnelle (France) £19.75

A delicious red berry fruitiness dominates, although this has a lovely, fine mousse, an unusual pinky/purple colour and is produced by the original champagne method.

21) Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label (Champagne, France) £45.00

The full flavour of this champagne comes from good maturation. Soft, baked bread and biscuity nose, with creamy white fruits and a long lasting flavour. Stylish, elegant and full-bodied.
