Step by Step Directions

1.  Go to http://vsafl.artthread.org/

  1. Register if you haven’t already.

2. In the top left-hand corner, type your username and password, and click the log-in button.

3. To create a new painting with Splash, do the following:

a. On the toolbar, click “Create Art Online.”

b. On the vertical toolbar, click on the paintbrush icon.

(1) On the “flutter” slider, you can choose which of the 21 paintbrushes you want to use.

(2) On the “size” slider, you can choose the size of your paintbrush.

(3) If you want to animate your paintbrush, click inside the “animate” box.

(4) Click OK.

c. On the vertical toolbar, click on the color wheel to select your brush colors.

(1) Use your mouse to move the tiny color selector around the color circle to choose the color.

(2) Using the “triangular-shaped” slider under the color wheel circle, you can adjust how light or dark the color is.

(3) On the “variation” slider, you can adjust how random the brush will cycle through the family of colors you selected and how much variation to include. If you want to paint with one specific color, turn the variation off.

(4) On the “opacity” slider, you can change how transparent the color is. It allows other brush strokes to show through your work. The Peekaboo! Bar shows what this will actually look like.

(5) Click OK.

d. Other adjustments: On the bottom left-hand corner, you can:

(1) On the first slider, you can add or remove paintbrushes.

(2) On the “speed” slider, you can add resistance to the brush motion.

e. On the white canvas, click and drag the paintbrushes to create your Splash art.

f. To undo your last change, you can click “Undo” on the vertical toolbar.

g.  When you are finished, click “Save” on the vertical toolbar. You will then get three choices. Click on the green “Add to My Gallery” button before leaving Splash or you will lose your work.

4. To upload an image from your computer to My Gallery, do the following:

a. Click on “My Gallery.”

b. On the gray toolbar, click on “Upload.”

c. Click on “Browse.”

d. Locate the image you want to upload, click on it, and then click on “Open.”

e.  Click on “Upload.”

f.  Click on “click here.”

5.  To create a new thread from an uploaded image, do the following:

a.  Click on “My Gallery.”

b.  To create a new thread from a particular image, click on the icon (Start New Thread) under that image (it looks like a box with a plus sign inside of it).

c.  Type in a title for the new thread.

d.  Under locked, choose “yes” or “no.” A locked thread prevents others from joining in on the art conversation.

e.  Click on “continue.”

f.  Click on “click here to view the thread.”

6.  To add to a thread using one of your Splash pieces, do the following:

a. While in the thread view, click on the icon (View and Respond) under the image you are responding to (it looks like a box with a solid box inside of it).

b.  Click on “Add to this Thread.”

c.  Find the image you want to add. You will need to click on the word “Splash” to see those creations. You can scroll up and down to view them.

d.  Click on the image you’ve selected to add to the thread.

e.  Click on “This is the art I want to use.”

f.  Click on “Click here to view the thread.” You will see your selection on the right-hand side of the artwork.

7.  To respond to the first image in a thread, do the following:

a. While in the thread view, click on the icon (View and Respond) under the image you are responding to (it looks like a box with a solid box inside of it).

b.  Click on “Respond to this piece.”

c.  Find the image you want to add. You will need to click on the word “Splash” to see those creations. You can scroll up and down to view them.

d.  Click on the image you’ve selected to respond to the first image.

e.  Click on “This is the art I want to use.”

f.  Click on “Click here to view the thread.” You will see your selection underneath the first image.

8.  To share Splash images with someone else via email, do the following:

a.  Click on “My Gallery.”

b.  To share an image with someone, click on the icon (Share with a Friend) under the image you want to share (it looks like a speech bubble).

c.  Type your email address and the recipient’s email address.

d.  Optional: You can type in a message.

e.  Click on “Share.”
