Minutes of Development Authority of McDuffie County Board Meeting

September 19, 2013

Call to Order: A meeting of the Development Authority was held at the Forward McDuffie office in Thomson, GA on September 19, 2013. The meeting convened at 10:00 a.m., Chairman Riley Stamey, presiding.

Members in Attendance: Riley Stamey, Lem Brooks, Paul McCorkle, John Perryman, Larry Thompson,Dr. Curtis Pickard, and G. O. Hughes. Also in attendance, Ralph Staffins, Development Authority Executive Director, Donna Stillinger, WTHO Radio, Wayne Parham, McDuffie Progress and Denise Mason, Recording Secretary.

Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by John Perryman, seconded by Larry Thompson to approve the minutes of August 5, 2013. Motion carried unanimously.

Review and approval of Financial Report: Motion was made by Larry Thompson, seconded by John Perryman to approve the August YTD Financial Report. Motion carried unanimously.

Old Business:

  • Plant Manager Roundtable Breakfast

Staffins reported to the board that there was a meeting held on September 19, 2013 for local Plant Managers that was well attended. The plan is to continue on a quarterly basis.

New Business:

  • Warehouse Space

The original motion was made by Larry Thomson and seconded by Lem Brooks to go to bid with option 3, which was presented by JLA, and to include the roof and columns of building 6. An amendment to the motion was made by Lem Brooks and seconded by John Perryman to include request for both complete demolition and demolition with salvaging of timber in the bid request. Both motions carried unanimously.

  • DYCO Building

This issue will be tabled to the next meeting.

  • Knox Site

Riley Stamey and Ralph Staffins reported that they met with Larry Knox regarding the Knox Industrial Site and that he was very receptive of helping get the property more ready for showing. He also expressed that he is more than happy to participate in Industrial development at the site as well as the property he owns across Warrenton Highway.

  • Pictometry

Motion was made by Larry Thompson and seconded by John Perryman to deny the request for funding of this project. Motion carried unanimously.

  • Project Buster

Staffins reported that McDuffie County was in consideration for this project that would include 50 new jobs. There have already been several site visits by the company.

Other

Website Update: City/County, Chamber, and Forward McDuffie.
