Job purpose
To conduct research as part of an ESRC/DFID funded project ‘Impact of social pensions on multiple dimensions of poverty, subjective and solidarity across generations’. This will involve analysis of longitudinal quantitative data collected as part of the Demographic Surveillance System in Nairobi, Kenya. The post will also involve liaising with project partners in Nairobi, conducting literature review, writing project reports and assist in dissemination of study findings at academic conferences and to non-academic stakeholders.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / To conduct literature searches and produce abstracts and literature reviews on ageing and social protection programmes in Sub Saharan Africa. / 10%
2.  / Prepare datasets for analysis: i.e. linking and deriving variables from data from Nairobi Urban Health Demographic Surveillance System (NUHDSS) and nested panel studies of older people living in demographic surveillance area. / 20%
3.  / Conduct statistical analyses and modelling of these data. / 50%
4.  / Contribute to dissemination of findings through conference presentations, seminars and the joint writing of papers / 10%

Special Requirements /
This position requires a willingness to travel within the UK to attend meetings and conferences and to travel to Kenya to work with international collaborators.
Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
