PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

2002 to PresentProject Engineer for System Engineering, Ltd., Responsibilities include project engineering and management of various Public and Private projects in the British Virgin Islands, including the runway expansion for Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport and British Virgin Island Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

2001 to 2002ProjectEngineer for Aqua Design BVI, Ltd., Responsibilities included installation and upgrading desalination water plants in the Caribbean, including installing energy recovery devices on existing Desalination Water Plants.

2000 to 2001One year sabbatical leave. During this time my family and I lived and sailed aboard a 45-foot wooden sailboat navigating and exploring the Caribbean Islands from Trinidad to the Virgin Islands while home schooling our children. Before departing I designed and installed photovoltaic panels and charging system to meet all our power needs.

1993 to 2000Managing Partner/Project Engineer for Intercounty Laboratories, Inc., Responsibilities included overseeing field and laboratory testing for geotechnical studies, along with report preparation. Performing field research, explorations and reports for environmental Phase I and Phase II site studies. Miscellaneous duties included construction materials testing and inspection of soils, reinforced concrete, welding and asphalt.

1992 to 1993Field Inspector for C.A.P. Engineering Consultants - Projects included the Metro Mover Extension and N.W. 27th Avenue Bascule Bridge. Responsibilities included inspection, testing, preparing reports and enforcement of contract documents. Experience in geotechnical testing and recommendations, environmental controls during construction, structural steel erection and painting, concrete testing and reporting, as well as regulating claims on extra work.

1987 to 1992Property Manager “Villa de Majorca Apartments” and Calculus and Physics Tutor. This employment was used to pay for college while attending class full-time. During this time I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with honors.

1980 to 1987Employed in the Marine Industry, starting out as a Deck hand (age 17) and working my way up to a 50-ton Ocean Operator’s License in July 1986. Prior to starting college, I sailed as Captain on board the “Sirocco” - an 80’ private sailing yacht. Responsibilities on board included celestial and coastal navigation, radar and electronics operation, ship’s budgeting and expense reporting, customs and crew clearance, as well as trouble-shooting and repair of mechanical/sailing equipment. This job required extensive travel, circumnavigating both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, spending 2 years in Europe and 18 month in South Pacific and Asia. I have worked with crewmembers from many different countries and have gained invaluable knowledge about other customs and cultures.

1979 to 1980Departed Clearfield, Pennsylvania, on June 21, 1979 in a 13’ Kayak, en-route to Key West, Florida, arriving in Key West on February 1, 1980.

Note:Being raised as one of 14 children on a small western Pennsylvania farm endowed me with an independent spirit and self-confidence. At age 17, I kayaked from Clearfield, Pennsylvania to Key West, Florida then crewed on sailing ships for the next 8 years visiting Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and the South Pacific. I returned to the USA and continued schooling earning a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in Environmental Engineering.
