Purpose of the job
To assist in the security and safety of the IWM Duxford site, exhibits, buildings, staff, visitors and other site users.
Your duties
1)Admissions and exits at the gate of staff, visitors and other site users and the issuing of passes / badges to site visitors. You are required to ensure the safety and security of the site, visitors, staff and other site users by ensuring that only authorised personnel have access and appropriate registering of visitors is administered.
2)Issuing and receipt of keys. You will monitor the issuing and return of keys to and from the guardroom to authorised personnel only.
3)Dealing with incoming telephone calls when necessary, PA system, pocket phone equipment. Good communication skills are required to deal with incoming calls from the public and from colleagues across IWM. A clear voice will be required to give out information over the PA System.
4)Monitoring and operating fire and intruder detection equipment and carrying out emergency procedures in the event of activation.
5)Carrying out regular mobile and foot patrols and related duties as instructed
IWM Duxford Airfield covers 300 acres and regular security patrols, which may be on foot or mobile, are carried out during the working day.
6)Driving duties on and off site. Driving duties may be carried out within the local area as directed by the duty supervisor; this may include visits to the nitrate film store at Ickleton.
7)Domestic and administrative duties related to security. The department looks after the official site vehicles ensuring that they are maintained, cleaned and fuelled ready for staff use. A number of IT data bases are in use as well as written records, which must be maintained to a high standard.
8)Carrying out domestic and CAA fire duties in accordance with procedures, maintaining a level of fitness to meet CAA requirements –please contact a member of the personnel team if you are not clear whether you would meet the standards.
9)Qualify and serve as a first aider, including the use of a defibrillator. The security department provides first aid to the staff and visitors to IWM Duxford and all security officers are trained to a high standard.
10)Introduction to Health & Safety. You must work in such a manner as to ensure your own safety and the safety of others including members of the public and report to your manager any hazards, dangerous occurrences or dangerous equipment you see, and any accident you are involved in or witness. Staff who have no management or staff responsibility are required to attend "Introduction to Health & Safety Course" All staff are required to attend this basic course to gain awareness as to what the employer and the employee are required to do to support Health & Safety legislation.

Terms and Conditions
•You will work a 12 hour shift pattern as a member of one of the four teams of staff, reporting to a Supervising Security Officer. Your shift pattern will change every five days and rotate on a 20 day pattern. Your hours will normally be:
Days 1-5 / Days 6-10 / Days 11-15 / Days 16-200700 - 1900 / Rest Days / 1900-0700 / Rest Days
•You will also be required to work airshow weekends on a compulsory overtime basis, depending on shift pattern. You are required to have a flexible approach to working hours as there may be the requirement for you to attend training or cover absence.
•The successful candidate will be on probation for 6 months.
•The annual leave allowance is 24½ days per annum, rising to 28 days after five years service. This includes your public and privilege day entitlement.
•IWM has introduced a total ban on smoking in all its buildings.
•In the first 13 months of service you are only eligible to Statutory Sick Pay.
Salary
The salary range for the post of security officer is £15,801to £17,880. Starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range. Salary increases are in line with IWM Performance Pay Scheme, which is subject to government pay policy.
