Do you love helping people to live fulfilling lives, get involved in their community and make a difference? If so, you could be the person for us. We are looking for passionate and dedicated Support Workers who want to help us make a difference to our service users in our learning disability service.
You will undertake a wide range of key tasks which will include assisting residents with personal care, cooking, domestic duties, going out and having fun. You will need great written and verbal communication skills, be willing to be flexible and attend our excellent training and development programme.
You will be required to work any five days out of seven, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and Bank holidays (Enhanced rate). You may be required to undertake sleep in duties, for which an additional allowance is paid.
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 2 / Diploma in Health & Social Care - anyone who does not have NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care must be prepared to do the Care Certificate within their induction period
- Experience of learning disability support/care work
It is also desirable to have a driving licence and be willing to drive

Overview of Service
Our service supports 21 people 24/7 across 3 purpose built homes who have complex emotional needs, autistic spectrum disorders and also includes people with physical disabilities and people with mental illhealth.
Our service delivery is based upon a person centred approach to ensure that all individuals are given opportunities to lead fulfilling lives. Our personal support plans are devised to ensure that we promote independence and maximise the potential of everyone who uses the service. Our service is committed to equal opportunities and we recognise the rights of all individuals.
Our three residential resources are based in North Leeds.

Key Responsibilities and Range of Duties
- Providing a warm, safe and caring environment for the service users.
- Supporting and enabling service users with their personal care needs; wishes and preferred routines outlined in the individual’s personal support plan. This may include intimate personal care.
- Assisting service users with all aspects of daily living including dressing, cooking, cleaning, shopping and other domestic tasks.
- Driving service users to various appointments and venues eg. Hospital, Doctor, social appointments
- Supporting services users with the mobility – including the use of / pushing manual wheelchairs / using walking aids
- Moving and Handling which includes the use of electric ceiling track, manual hoists and assisted baths
- Dispensing and administering service users’ medication in accordance with LJWB’s Medication Procedure.
- To be vigilant and report any areas within the home which do not meet health and safety standards
- To take responsibility for supporting service users in all aspect of their daily needs.
- Refer to the Home Manager anything that may affect the service users’ welfare/safety and report any change in their health and social care.
- To maintain accurate financial accounts for both the service users and the home at all times. This includes support and individual budgeting with service users.
- Liaising with other professional agencies where required.
- Acknowledging and respecting the individual needs of service users and their families and ensuring that these are met where-ever possible.
- To uphold LJWB values, behaviours and attitudes in performing your duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities – Team Communication and Reporting
- To be part of the monthly rota including sleep-in duties once a week at least once a week
- To work within all three homes as and when required
- You will be required to work any five days out of seven, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and Bank holidays.
- To attend team meetings and appropriate training courses when required as part of your working week
- To communicate effectively and appropriately with all other members of the care team in all houses
- To comply with Health & Safety legislation.
- To comply with all policies and procedures outlined by LJWB.
- Attend regular supervisions and annual appraisals with the Home Manager.
- Compile and/or support residents reviews and house matters
- Record keeping
- To uphold all UK legislation, the standards and requirements of CQC
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Support Worker
