Newsletter 2 – Nov 2014
Hello Sea Devils
Welcome to the second newsletter for Sans Souci Sea Devils Swim Club.
Membership for Sans Souci Sea Devils is growing. We have well over 100 members now. This is great news for our club.
Friday Night Club Nights
Club nights are held fortnightly this season and our next club night is Friday 21 November starting at 6pm, please come early to enter.
We ideally want everyone to enter online via www.anotherpb.com. You sign up to this website and you can select the Friday night events for Sea Devils. There is NO fee to our members to enter online for our Friday nights.
You can enter other carnivals via this method, but please remember there is a fee to enter external carnivals via this website.
We still accept entries via our website and you pay via EFT as soon as you send in your entries. This method is free to our members.
By entering our club night events online via anotherpb, it saves you time lining up and we can start the event on or as close to the advertised time as possible.
We appreciate everyone offering to help at club, so come along and offer your assistance. On official nights, it makes it a little more difficult as we have set authorised officials undertaking the duties, but on any other night, we are happy to have anyone offer assistance to learn new roles.
We are hoping to have a BBQ each club night. We do need some volunteers to run the bbq, so if this is something you can assist with, please let us know.
Membership Card - free gift
We have all members membership card ready to be picked up. We will have these at club on Friday night, so if you have not received your NSW Swimming card please come and collect it from us and receive your free gift.
Your NSW Swimming membership card gives you 10% off all purchases in the Speedo shop at SOPAC – Sydney Olympic Pool Aquatic Centre.
Telopea Carnival – AIS Canberra
Some of our swimmers went to the Telopea Carnival. Many pb’s and National times were achived so congratulations to those swimmers.
Caringbah
9 of our swimmers went to the Caringbah carnival and many received medals for their efforts.
We must congratulate these swimmers, a special mention to Ava as this was her first carnival. We do hope she enjoyed herself. There was 2 thunder/lightening storms on the day putting the carnival on hold. We were the only club with a marquee that had sides on so we were kept dry. The carnival recommenced and more medals come the Sea Devils way.
Auburn
A few of our swimmers went along and supported the Auburn carnival. Whilst the sun was out it was still a little chilly. Our swimmers had fun and once again, it was Sea Devils to the medal table.
Metsea
Thank you to everyone that helped out at the Metsea carnival, either timekeeping or on the medal table. Your time and effort is very much appreciated. A carnival cannot be run without parental assistance.
A special mention to Ashleigh who made her first Metro time, Emily L who has made her first National time and Samantha K who made her first State Open time. Congratulations girls.
Speedo sprints
We would love to have some of our kids attending the speedo sprints. This event has only 50m events of each stroke. This is the only meet of the year that you don’t have to be a NSW swimming member, but if you make the final you are required to join a NSW Club. See below for more information on Speedo Sprints. If any of your squad friends are good swimmers and not Sea Devil members, they can enter the carnival and swim at Homebush. The top 6 placings attend the next level meet and compete for Metsea.
SOPAC Pool Homebush
Please feel free to come along and sit with the club when we attend a Homebush meet. The Sea Devils usually sit in Western side grandstand - Bay 113/114 (or there abouts). Look out for our flag.
Race Secretary
Our Race Secretary is Christine. Please email her any questions. Please remember to pay asap after entering a carnival via our website. Email:
Chocolates – we have some Cadbury fundraising chocolate boxes available, if you can assist in selling some, please let us know. They are Freddo mixed boxes of 50 for $1. I will order one last batch before x-mas so if you can assist help selling them that would be so helpful.

NEWS - Our website is often updated with news. The front page of the website will only hold approximately 4 items. If you remember seeing something and it seems to be removed, please click on the ‘news’ button on the left of the page and all news items should appear. The messages remain, just drop down as new items are added.
Swim Clothing – Club T-Shirts are available for $25. Swim caps - $15.00. Hoodies - $45. Most of these items are available on club nights.
Kmart often have girls green fluro shorts for around $10, boys speedo shorts can be purchased from the leisure centre. The leisure centre can order additional sizes. Best and Less also have fluro green shorts.
Swim Caps – Club caps can be purchased on clubs nights. Wearing caps makes it much easier for the officials to notice if the wrong child is in the wrong event.
Named caps - are available but can only be ordered when we have a minimum of 10 interested people. Minimum is 2 caps each. Jan G is our apparel lady who is only too happy to assist you with your purchases. There is information on our website under ‘news’ about the current order that is being placed.
Facebook – Like us on facebook, “Sans Souci Sea Devils Swim Club’ page.
Second hand clothing – We are often asked for second hand clothing or asked if anyone would be interested in any preloved swim items (including the expensive race suits). Please let us know what you have and we can advertise for you. We take no responsibility for any items.

LC or SC – LC means long course ie. 50m pool, during our summer. SC means short course pool ie. 25m, during our winter. At Homebush, they change the 50m pool into 25m during our SC season. The Season change is usually 1 September and around March it changes back to SC.
Tips & Hints –
1. In racing, please remember you are only allowed ONE pair of swimwear. You cannot wear your speedo’s under your race costume as this is against NSW/Aust/Fina Swimming rules. You will be asked to remove the additional pair or will be disqualified. The reason being is that it can be seen as having a buoyancy advantage.
2. You cannot wear bandage or tape in a race. If you require it, you are required to show the referee before the meet and produce a medical certificate. As it can be seen as an advantage the referee must give their approval for you to swim with it otherwise you will be DQ’d.
Did you know – Did you know that you can go for any NSW Swimming record at ANY meet at ANY pool, as long as there is prior approval and that the meet has a referee, starter and 3 timekeepers. Lots of prearranging has to be sought, but it is possible. An 11 year old went for a State record last year at Bexley Pool she got it. A great job. Records are listed on the NSW Swimming website under competition, records.
Sponsors
We have been lucky enough to gain some Platinum sponsors for this season.
We welcome aboard :

We thank them for their sponsorship and encourage you to support them.
Swim Jackets - The large thick swim jackets that several kids wear around the pool and to marshalling, can be purchased from www.yingfasydney.com.au
Carnival Information
Carnival Hierarchy Structure –
Local carnivals – a great introduction to competitive swimming
Metsea carnivals – Regional carnivals for our whole area only
Metro’s – (Metropolitan Championships) For Sydney Metropolitan swimmers only (there is a country equivalent for country kids only)
State Age – State qualifying for a State wide Carnival
National Age – National Carnival held in April each year, very strict qualifying times.
NSW Open – All age meet with harder qualifying times. Very strict times.
For planning your child’s swimming, it’s great to have them participate in local carnivals to start. Once they gain times and confidence here, check the metsea qualifying times to see if you qualify to swim at this level. Then after achieving Metsea qualifying times, help them aim at the Metro times, then Metro to State, then National. This takes time. Remember, they are swimming against their own time.
National Events – To enter National events, entries must be made via the Swimming Australia website instead of the NSW website. You use your same NSW username to login. If you do not have this id, please email our club.
Carnivals
Please ask your child to listen carefully in marshalling and keep the noise to a minimum. It makes it really difficult for the officials when kids are mucking around and not listening. One child on the weekend was prevented from swimming their event due to behaviour in marshalling. The officials are all volunteers and without them we do not have a meet for our children to swim. Please be mindful.
Metropolitan Championships – held at Sydney Olympic Park
Everyone has a login for NSW Swimming (which is a different login than another pb (Friday nights). If you do not have this login and password, please email the club to advise. The entries are to be completed online for this meet.
Here is the link. You login and select your childs events and pay online.
