TITLE: SERVICE COORDINATOR

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Community Services Manager

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Community Services staff provide assistance to low-income residents by offering them help to meet basic needs and provide linkages, consumer education, self-sufficiency programming, outreach, and advocacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) services daily;
  • Maintain a consistent and effective outreach program covering the county/counties served by office in which staff person is assigned;
  • Provide temporary financial assistance, advocacy, information, and referral services to low-income residents of county/counties served by office is which staff person is assigned;
  • In cooperation with other CAP staff, network and coordinate efforts with all appropriate local service agencies and organizations focused on assisting low-income people to access services and address barriers that keep people in poverty;
  • Maintain confidential information and client files;
  • File and purge client files and other pertinent documents throughout the year as needed;
  • Perform data entry, create and print memos, correspondence, reports, and other documents when necessary;
  • Accomplish all goals set forth in the Idaho CSBG grant and/or other funding sources by providing clear and accurate records on contacts made and duties performed for clients;
  • Make appropriate referrals to Future Story Initiative staff of low-income individuals and families that may benefit from enrollment in this high impact strategy to end poverty;
  • In cooperation with seasonal staff, as available, provide energy assistance to eligible households;
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance to ensure office coverage;
  • Perform other related work as required.

JOB SCOPE:

Under the supervision of the Community Services Manager or the Community Engagement Director, the Service Coordinator is responsible for development, promotion, and implementation of community outreach and assistance services to all low-income residents in the county/counties in which the staff person is assigned, in accordance with CAP’s program goals. Additional responsibilities are administrative in nature (clerical, report compilation, filing) and networking with community partners through attendance at community meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

  • Ability to establish good working relationships within CAP as well as with representative of other agencies;
  • This person serves as an enthusiastic advocate for CAP;
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with clients, customers, co-workers, and supervisors;
  • Treat clients, co-workers, and the public in a respectful and courteous manner at all times;
  • Employees are expected to keep their supervisor informed of issues, questions, or concerns that may arise or come to their attention about CAP. Such issues, etc. may come to employees from clients, community members, or co-workers during the course of performing their duties.

  • Capable of establishing a good rapport with low-income people and the general public;
  • Possess resourcefulness in planning, organizing, and executing required tasks;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, co-workers, clients, and vendors;
  • Ability to stay relaxed in the face of other people’s distress;
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with individuals and families served;
  • Able to retain details and information as needed;
  • Ability to identify own personal and professional challenges and implement learning feedback into work performance;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently;
  • Computer proficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED required, Associate Degree preferred;
  • Relevant combination of education and/or professional experience working with individuals, families, and the public;
  • Experience working with low-income families and community services;
  • Means of reliable transportation with adequate insurance coverage and valid driver’s license.
