Please Abide by Your Responsibilities and Obligations

Sign in at the office upon arrival at the school

Obtain instructions from the supervisor/ principal for whom you are volunteering

Be aware of the school policies, practices, and emergency procedures

Be prepared to give students your full attention

Wear a name tag or visitor’s badge

Be on time for your duty or notify the school secretary if you cannot volunteer when expected

Exercise good judgment with verbal and physical contact with students and staff

Confidentiality with student records and other pertinent information is extremely important

Medication or first aid cannot be administered by a volunteer

Emergency drills –Schools routinely conduct drills;volunteers must comply with all orders during drills.

Volunteers cannot transport students in their personal vehicles

Ask questions when unsure of how to handle a situation

Darlington County School District

Our supervised volunteers assist the District by—

  • Motivating our students in academics, athletics, and other activities
  • Enabling the District to offer enhanced activities (i.e., field trips, school programs, reading, other extracurricular activities)
  • Providing general services for the library, clinic, classroom, and cafeteria
  • Promoting fund-raisers in the community
  • Assisting school staff and faculty with administrative functions
  • Making/Creating games for centers
  • Working on the school grounds
  • Providing supplies for classrooms

Please Note . . .

Volunteers must complete a Collaborative Agreement, Emergency Information Form, and provide a copy of a valid driver license in order to volunteer in the DCSD schools. We exercise great caution in being aware of all individuals who are on the school grounds at all times—this practice is for the safety of our students. A background check is conducted for all school volunteers.

The Collaborative Agreement and Emergency Information Form are available at the Admin. Building and at the schools as well as on the DCSD web site, The agreement must be signed by both the volunteer and the school principal.

Only a teacher is allowed to

  • Preside over classroom instruction
  • Perform formal evaluations of students
  • Correct or grade tests, papers, etc.
  • Record information on math or reading folders/cards, etc.
  • Write comments on students’ papers
  • Access students’ permanent records
  • Contact parents (other than for attendance)
  • DisciplineDCSD students
