Description of Service / 24 hour 7 day a week service offering emergency assessments and home treatment for clients experiencing urgent mental health problems. The Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team is an alternative to in-patient admission. Clients are usually seen in their own homes for intensive short term, recovery focused support. The team also provide early discharge assessments for clients on leaving hospital. The team has a Day Treatment Service which can provide a recovery focused programme for up to 6 weeks, for clients with complex needs to improve their daily functioning in line with person centred care plans.
Other areas of interest and related experience available / Students will have the opportunity to spend time with the Mental Health Liaison Team at QA Hospital, The Recovery Community Teams, The A2I Assessment Team, Recovery College and the In-Patient Units.
Work/Shift pattern / Worked over a 4 day week:
Early- 08:00 – 17:45
Late: 12:15 – 22:00
Night: 22:00 – 08:00

Specific areas of expertise/clinical skills which students can observe / learn from / Practice / Assessing client’s in mental health crisis, assessing suicidal clients, positive risk taking, managing challenging behaviour, telephone assessments, looking after clients detained on sec 136 of the Mental Health Act, decision making regarding admission to hospital, medication management, multi-disciplinary team meetings
List of inter-professional learning opportunities available during placement / Observe time with an Approved Mental Health Practitioner undertaking assessments under the Mental Health Act.
