Position Objectives
Program objectives:
Position objectives: / Operate under the direction of the Community Services Regional Manager and in accordance with Shire Councils corporate plans, policies and relevant legislation.
  • This position holder is responsible for the formulation of women’s committees within Victoria Daly Shire in individual communities. The Coordinator will also be responsible for overseeing the mentoring and training of women in leadership and governance.
  • The position holder is responsible for the Coordination of Children’s Services – i.e. crèche and child care centre operations and for overseeing the mentoring and training of Children Services Staff.

Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the position: /
  • Building a strong network between women in communities within the shire and steering the formation of a women’s committee in each community
  • Facilitate/support regular women’s meetings in communities.
  • Coordinate and support governance and leadership training to women and encourage attendance at Shire Council board meetings.
  • Organise women’s group meetings in each community and coordinate attendance to Regional Women’s Forums as a celebration and planning of the future of ‘regional’ women’s programs in Victoria Daly Shire.
  • Develop and implement a mentoring program for women in Leadership and governance.
  • Develop strategic and sustainable model for a Victoria Daly Shire Regional Consultative Group and actively pursue funding opportunities for Victoria Daly Shire both programs.
  • Strategic planning and delivery of children’s services
  • Plan and deliver mentor, train and supervise team leaders.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure Occupational Health & Safety regulations are adhered to and ensure the policies and procedures of the Shire are adhered to and all resources effectively deployed.
  • To assist in the provision a quality Child Care program that meets the needs and interests of the children in care in accordance with Commonwealth, State and Local Government standards and legislation.
  • Actively participate in maintaining a professional and compatible work environment that promotes positive interpersonal relationships amongst staff, children and families.
  • Ability to take direction and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work within the constraints of legislation, acts, policies and programs relevant to Child Care services.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop staff from a range of backgrounds in a cultural context.

Skills:
Knowledge:
Experience and/or qualifications: /
  • Demonstrated experience in managing social services activities and Women’s programs in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the reporting requirements and externally funded project and ability to work with a deadline.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and coordinate meetings, workshops, formal and informal training, in a cultural context.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural complexity of Indigenous communities of Northern Territory and challenges faced by women in Victoria Daly Shire Region in particular.
  • Well developed oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and cooperatively within a small team, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strategic decision making skills with an analytical and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Sound understanding of Indigenous Cultures and ability to work with Indigenous women.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Sound understanding of the requirements of Children’s Services delivery in remote communities
  • Understanding of community development concepts
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification or experience in Social Services/Community Development.

Appointment Conditions
This appointment is a full time permanent position subject to ongoing funding.
The appointed applicant will be required to undergo a Police check.
The position holder must be willing to adhere to Councils Code of Conduct, Policies and Procedures.
