BAFTA Exhibitions: Freelance Project Role

Overview

BAFTA aims to showcase 10 exhibitions per year within its members’ building at 195 Piccadilly. Content for exhibitions is sourced from both the BAFTA Archive and external archives.Exhibitions support and celebrateBAFTA recognition of Film, Television and Video Games as art forms.

BAFTA works with a number of external curators to deliver high quality exhibitions.BAFTA is also working with industry partners to produce special exhibitions celebrating BAFTA history and achievements.

This freelanceproject role involves the day-to-day management and delivery of allBAFTA exhibitions.The post holder will also work with internal fundraising and sponsor/partner initiatives to support development and production of BAFTA exhibition opportunities.

It is expected that the role will require an average commitment of 2-3 days per week and will initially run for 6 months.

Reporting:

This role will report to the BAFTA Print Editor and Archive Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and delivering an ongoing exhibition schedule at 195 Piccadilly.
  • Establishing relationships with regional venues, national organisations and independent curators.
  • Management of installation and exhibition launches to deadlines.
  • Liaising with the BAFTA Archive to curate and produce material as necessary.
  • Liaising with the BFI, LondonFilmMuseum and other external partiesto curate material and deliver external exhibitions.
  • Fulfilling production requirements and arranging prints, mounts, objects and captions etcas required and attending to transport and other delivery issues when necessary.
  • Preparing and presenting exhibition proposals.
  • Writing promotional copy to accompany exhibitions and managing launch activities.
  • Managing all costs within the exhibitions budget and working with fundraising and sponsorship initiatives to support exhibition development.

Skills and experience required:

The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience of working across a variety of media within galleries, museums, content development and/or similar environments. Prospective applicants must have a comprehensive knowledge of the screen industries and photography. Experience of exhibition finance, management,design and production is essential.

The ideal candidate will present an ordered approach to work with meticulous attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are vital as the post-holder must be able to liaise with people at all levels from a variety of organisations and present concepts and proposals clearly and effectively. The ability to work under pressure with a calm and flexible attitude is also necessary.
