Roman Newspaper Project

DUE Wednesday – MAY 7h

Your Task:

For our unit on Ancient Rome, you will be creating a newspaper front page as a culminating activity. This newspaper will be comprised of a number of articles related to topics that we will be learning about during the unit. At the end of the unit, you will place all of your articles and newspaper features together to create a newspaper published during Ancient Rome. Each article you write must be historically accurate and properly cited.

Project Requirements

1. Clever Newspaper Name (Something relating to the unit like The Roman Tribune)

2. Five Articles

3. Five Feature Elements (editorial, political cartoon, comic strip, advertisement, obituary)

4. Assembled to look like a newspaper. (You may use a newspaper template and print on

larger paper or a poster board. 8.5 X 11 is not permitted)

5. WORK CITED PAGE (Proper MLA Format).

Newspaper Article Requirements:

Each article needs to follow the requirements listed below:

1. Title – interesting and catchy (Be creative…you want to grab the readers attention)

2. Typed; Times New Roman or Arial, 12-Point Font

3. Proper Essay Format

·  Introductory paragraph

·  Body paragraphs

·  Conclusion paragraph

4. 2 pages (500-750 words) at least. Both a hard copy and submitted on turn

it in

5. Work cited

Newspaper Feature Requirements:

A newspaper not only consists of articles, but also advertisements, cartoons and other features. In addition to your five articles, you will create five of the following newspaper features.

Features to Include in Your Newspaper:

1. Editorial

An article expressing an opinion on a particular historical issue of the times

·  Include a title that grabs the reader’s attention

2. A Comic

A series of drawings that depict an event from Roman history in a humorous way

·  Include a title for your comic

o  If you choose a comic, you must use color!

Ancient Rome Project Grading Rubric

Each assignment will be graded based on historical accuracy, and whether or not the student/group followed the requirements noted above.

·  Each student will be responsible for their own individual article and feature element. You will be graded individually on these elements. These two elements will comprise the bulk of your grade.

·  Each day an individually requirement is late, 10% of the grade will be deducted.

·  There will also be a group project grade based on the final newspaper you create.
