HOMESTAY PROGRAM 2015
DISTRICT 6980

Host FAQ

What is the District 6980 HomeStay program?

It is an international service project of the District. An opportunity for Rotary fellowship for District Governor Elects (DGE’s) from around the world who are en-route to San Diego, California for training. We offer a unique opportunity to stay with Rotarians in our District, enjoy home hospitality and experience a visit to the Central Florida area. 2015 will be our 33rd year of District 6980’s HomeStay program.

When is the District 6980 HomeStay program?

HomeStay takes place the week preceding the International Assembly. In 2015 it will be Saturday, January 10th through Saturday, January 17th.

How is the District 6980 HomeStay program funded?

Each club volunteering to host pays $150 per DGE to fund planned activities provided for our visitors. Payments may be made by check or credit card (Mastercard or Visa) (see application for details). The participating DGE’s also pay $200 each, which includes a fee for the partner, if applicable.

What are the Host’s financial responsibilities?

There is a $150 host participation fee, typically paid by the host’s club. Hosts are encouraged (not required) to attend events with their guest DGE’s. Hosts pay for their own admissions to the events.

How many DGE’s will participate, how many hosts are needed?

We are limited to 20 DGE’s. We need 20 host homes.

What if I must cancel just prior or have a family emergency during the week?

I hope to have alternate hosts in the event of emergencies. If not, other arrangements will be made to accommodate the host as necessary. If the host must withdraw prior to the beginning of the week, the $150 participation fee will be refunded.

What are the responsibilities of the host?

Pick up their guest DGE at the Orlando International Airport. Provide or arrange for transportation to and from scheduled events. Hosts are encouraged to attend the events with their guests when possible. During unscheduled days, hosts are encouraged to coordinate with their guests to find a mutually enjoyable activity, or just “vege out.” If you cannot attend an event, you may coordinate with another host for a ride for your guests. You will be provided with all hosts’ contact information.

This is a potluck meal where Guests and Hosts are invited to prepare a dish native to the Guest's country and dress in traditional native garb. Guests will make a short presentation then meet in groups to exchange Rotary ideas and information.

Does the DGE and partner stay with only one family?

Generally it is more fun and relaxing for our guests not to move around, however the hosts can use their best judgment and are encouraged to engage other members of their clubs for transportation and entertainment.

What is appropriate attire for the events?

Rotary/Casual. No formal wear is required. Evenings, during this time may be chilly, we suggest warm clothes and a jacket, if needed.
