A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE CALTHA ELIZABETH “BETSY” MCCOY RIDGEWAY OF SUMTER UPON HER RETIREMENT AFTER ALMOST FORTY YEARS OF TEACHING AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to helping build a sense of togetherness and developing young minds in their communities; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and
Whereas, Caltha Elizabeth “Betsy” McCoy Ridgeway began her teaching career right out of college in 1965, teaching at both elementary and middle schools in the public school system from 19651980; and
Whereas, in 1980, Ms. Ridgeway began teaching at Thomas Sumter Academy and, over the years, has taught at both elementary and middle school levels at TSA and has been very involved in the cheerleading program; and
Whereas, in 1996, Ms. Ridgeway furthered her education by taking library science courses and took on the challenge of becoming the lower school librarian at Thomas Sumter Academy, a position she held until her retirement this year; and
Whereas, after serving the children of the Palmetto State for nearly forty years, Betsy McCoy Ridgeway is retiring from teaching and there is no doubt that her presence will be sorely missed at Thomas Sumter Academy as well as through the South Carolina school system as a whole. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Caltha Elizabeth “Betsy” McCoy Ridgeway of Sumter upon her retirement after almost forty years of teaching and extend best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Betsy McCoy Ridgeway.
