Rulesand Regulations
ContestantsandEligibility:
Contestantsmustbebonafide4-HClub,FFAorbreedassociationmembers.
Juniorcontestantsmustbeatleast8yearsofage,butnotyethaveachievedtheir14thbirthdayonJanuary1of thecurrentyear.
Seniorcontestantsmustbeat least14yearsofage,butnotyethaveachievedtheir19thbirthdayon January1of thecurrentyearoruntilFFAeligibilityhasexpiredafterhighschoolgraduation.
Contestantsmaynothaveparticipatedinanyofficialpost-secondary(college-level)horsejudgingcontest.
EntryDeadline:February1,2013toDebraJ.Hagstrom. Entrymustbemadeontheattachedformaccompaniedbya checkpayabletoIllinoisHorseFair. Contestentryfeealsogivesthecontestantsaccesstoallvendors,exhibits, demonstrations,etc.attheIllinoisHorseFairforthatday.Norefundswillbegiven. $25returncheckfeeapplies.
Methodof Conduct:
Teams:Ateam mayhavethreeorfourmembers;whenfourareentered,thethreehighscoreswillmmakeupthe team totals.
Allcontestantswillreportto thecontestat 7:45a.m.March 2wheretheywillreceivefullinstructionsregarding thecontest.Eachwillbeassignedanumber,group,andgivenplacingcards.Thecontestwillbeginat8:30a.m. ALLcontestantswillremainwiththeassignedgroupthroughoutthecontest.
Whilethecontestis inprogress,thereshallbenoconferringamongcontestantsorbetweencontestantsand anyoneelseexceptasdirectedbythecontestsuperintendentsorgroupleaders(i.e.notalkingduringcontest.) Judgingcardswillbepulledfrom anycontestantsthatareobservedtalkingduringthecontest.
Fifteenminuteswillbeallowedtoevaluatehalterclasses,andsufficienttimetoevaluateallrequiredgaitsin performanceclasses.
Fifteen to twenty questions regarding the conformation and performance of horses will beasked followingtheplacingof allclasses.BothJrSrcontestantsmustanswerthesequestions.
Sixtoeighttotalclassesmaybejudged.Thefollowingbreedsmmayberepresentedintheconformation classes:
QuarterHorse,Appaloosa,Paint,Palomino,Arabian,Morgan,Saddlebred,TennesseeWalker,MissouriFox Trotter,Thoroughbred,Standardbred,mules,andminiaturesalongwithanyDraft,WarmbloodorPonybreeds. Theperformanceclassesmayinclude,butarenotlimitedto:WesternPleasure,HunterUnderSaddle,Western Riding,Reining,HunterHack,EnglishPleasure,Saddleseat,HunterSeatorStockSeatEquitation,andPleasure Driving.Allconformationclasseswillbejudgedassoundoflimb,eye,windandmouth.Performancehorseswill bejudgedasseen(unsoundnesstobepenalizedaccordingly).Alltackandattireis consideredlegal.
Theanimalswillbedesignatedbynumbers1-2-3-4.
Horseswillnotbehandledbythecontestants,buttimewillbeprovidedforcloseinspectionandtoobservethe horseata walkandtrotbycontestantsinconformationclasses.
ContestSuperintendent:
Shall have thedutyofseeingthatallrulesandregulationsof thecontestarecarriedout.
Willtakenopartinratingthecontestants.
Shallhavechargeof allrecordsandshallhaveallratingstabulatedandtotaled.
Determinationsof Ratings:
50pointsshallconstituteaperfectmarkonplacingeachclass.
Eachquestionansweredcorrectlywillbeworth5points
Thetopthreeindividualscoreswithinateamwillapplytowardtheteam’stotalscore. Iftherearefourteam membersthelowestscorewillbedropped.Threepersonteamswill nothaveadropscore.Incompleteteams(2 members)willbeincompetitionforindividualawardsonly
Individualscanregisterandwillbeeligibleforthetop10individualawards.
If contestantsorteamsaretied,thefollowingrulesapply:
o1sttiebreaker–thecontestantorteam havingthehighestquestionscorewillbelistedfirst.
o2ndtiebreaker-thecontestantorteam havingthehighestscoreinplacingperformanceclassesshallbe listedfirst.
oIf stilltied,thecontestantsorteamswithtiescoreswillreceiveduplicateawards.
Awards:Membersof thetop5teamsandtop10individualsfrom eachdivisionwillberecognized.
Judges:
Classeswillbeplacedinaccordancewithrulesof therespectivebreedassociationswhereapplicable.
Theofficialjudgeswillworkwitheachclassofhorses.Thejudgesshallplacetheclasseswhilethecontestants areworkinginthearena.
