Regulation 1572- Teacher of Students Who Are Gifted or Talented
The Professional Standards Board amended Regulation 1572 Teacher of Students Who Are Gifted and Talented effective 1/11/15. Link to Reg 1572:
This certification is required in programs that are identified as specific to students who have been identified as gifted or talented through assessments and other criteria set forth by local school districts or other programs specifically identified by the Department as programs for students who are gifted or talented.
For a Standard Certificate as Teacher of Students Who Are Gifted or Talented, both testing and education are required.
- Submit a passing score on Praxis II 5358 (DE Praxis tests:
AND
- Complete either a degree or specific courses/PD.
- DEGREE: Complete an NCATE/TEAC/CAEP, or state-approved program in
- gifted or talented education, or
- teaching gifted students, or
- special education with a gifted or talented endorsement or specialization.
- COURSES/PD: Complete 15 semester hour credits (or 225 clock hours) in all of the content areas listed below. Three credits is equivalent to 45 clock hours.
- Foundations of Giftedness, including Cultural and Socioeconomic Equity (3 credits);
- Curriculum Design and Instructional Strategies for Gifted Students (3 credits); and
- Psychology of Gifted Students (3 credits); and
- Creative and Critical Thinking Skills (3 credits); and
- Practicum or Internship (3 credits).
Educators issued an Emergency Certificate between 7/1/14 and 1/10/15are able to complete the old or new requirements by 6/30/16.
