These rules shall be strictly adhered to and enforced by all staff and volunteer workers involved with child or youth related programs. If worker (staff or volunteer) is unable to perform under these rules, then the worker will not serve in such a ministry. This above determination shall be made prior to involvement.

Church Nursery Rules

Diaper Changing

  • Plastic gloves will be worn when changing diapers.
  • Lotion or powder will not be applied with bare hand.
  • As much as possible, insure that a wipe or cloth is between your hand and the child.
Sign-In/Out Procedures
  • Upon child’s arrival, enter the child’s name, age and parent’s name in the log.
  • Note any unusual, visible problems and inform the parent of it.

*Their signature on sign-in/out log attests to them being made aware of by worker.

  • Nursery workers will not release child at the time of departure to anyone other than the parent or any individual authorized by the parent to pick up the child.

Nursery Worker Rules

  • There must always be a minimum of two workers present at all times.
  • Upon arrival to the nursery, the worker must enter name, time and signature in the nursery worker’s log.
  • Upon leaving, the worker must enter departure time and signature.
  • During working in the nursery, the worker(s) must record any unusual occurrence with any individual child and inform the parent of it before the parent’s departure.
  • No worker or volunteer shall be allowed to work or help in the nursery until all the rules applying to such have been given and agreed upon by signature.

Sunday School, Awana, Children’s’ Church and Children’s Choir Regulations

Recording of Attendance
  • Upon arrival of student, teacher or helper will record student’s name, and time of arrival.
  • Upon ending of class, teacher or helper will record time of student’s departure.

Note: Student will not leave class at end of session unless accompanied by parent, by other authorized pick-up, or by other authorized means of departure by parent or guardian.

  • All departures other than by parent must be written signed authorizations.
Recording of Unusual Incidents
  • Any unusual incident that occurs during class period will be recorded in teacher’s class log.
  • Teacher or helper will record a brief description of incident, and name of individual(s) involved.
  • Teacher will inform parent, guardian, etc. of incident upon dismissal of class session.
  • Teacher will also inform Sunday School supervisor, Awana supervisor, of any such incidents.
Rules Particular to Teachers and Helpers
  • Teacher and helpers must be in class prior to students’ arrival.
  • Teacher and helpers will enter the time, the date, and their signature prior to the students’ arrival.
  • Upon the last student’s departure, teacher and helper(s) will then enter their own personal time of departure.
  • Students are not to leave class during session unless it is absolutely a necessity. (i.e. sickness, emergency restroom need, etc.).
  • Check on restroom needs prior to class entry, and let parent, guardian, etc. assist in such.
  • If an emergency arises that is of a medical nature, send for help by means of helper. Do not send student unless absolutely necessary.
  • No teacher, substitute, or helper shall serve in a Sunday School, Awana, Children’s Church, or Children’s Choir capacity until rules and procedures have been given, accepted, and signed prior to service.

General Rules for All Staff and Volunteer Workers

Regarding Children or Youth

1. Always seek to maintain your authority status. You are not to act as the child’s “friend” in a child’s friendship manner.

2. Men should endeavor to never touch any child or youth.

3. Ladies should endeavor to touch only young children and then only when necessary.

4. As much as possible, no person (male or female) is ever to be alone with a child.

5. Children shall not be permitted to sit on any worker’s lap.

6. As a general policy, children should not be hugged or kissed by worker. Do not initiate.

7. Children should not stay overnight at a worker’s home alone (i.e. child and worker).

8. When on an overnight excursion, supervision must be maintained at all times. This includes throughout sleeping hour!

9. No worker shall escort a child to the restroom alone.

*Seek to have the parent take care of the need priorto arriving.

10. Worker will not assist with broken zipper on pants or skirts of children. T-shirts will be available to minimize embarrassment until parent or guardian can be available to handle situation.

11. All entries on attendance forms, incident reports, etc. are to be done on the date they occur and as soon as possible upon occurrence.

If upon the reading of these rules in their entirety, you do hereby agree to abide by and enforce the same, please indicate by placing signature on the line provided below. Please note you do also agree by your signature to terminate service in said ministries immediately if you can no longer abide by or enforce such requirements in the future.
