Advanced Placement Biology

One-pager

A one pager is a double page response and note taking device for your nightly reading. It is a way of making your own pattern of your unique understanding of biology and the textbook. It is a way to be brief as well as to recall a large volume of information. We learn best when we can create our own patterns.

·  Create the one-pager in such a way that your audience will understand the context of your thinking and what you have read.

·  Be sure to add color! The more visually appealing- the more you and your reader can learn from your patterns.

·  Box in each section below and include the number

·  One-pagers are worth 30 points total and are due at the conclusion of each chapter.

Directions:

1.  Use a visual image or images from your book or computer to create a focus for your page.

2.  List each subheading (bold print in text) and define with a 2-3 bullet list. Makes sure that the information you put is well thought out. It should be a SUMMARY of what comprises that section and not just the first 2-3 things you read!!! Do NOT copy the summary at the end of the chapter.

3.  Identify 10 total key terms from the chapter: 5 overriding key terms and 5 terms that are new to you: define them AND give an example in your own words.

4.  Opening Question: Every chapter opens with a visually dynamic photo accompanied by an intriguing question that you answer.

5.  Critical thinking question: Every chapter closes with a critical thinking question that invites students to think about the chapter in a new way.

6.  Scientific Skills Exercise: Answer the questions as you interpret experiments through data and graphs.
