8th Grade Glimpse
April 7-April 10
NO SCHOOL Friday, April 3 or Monday, April 6---April 7 is a BLUE Day
SCIENCE: We will complete the solar system unit by making a scale model of the planets in our solar system using characteristics of the planets. We will review at the end of the week and students will have a test on April 13/14. Students will be able to identify bodies in our solar system as well as compare the livable characteristics of the Earth to the uninhabitable characteristics of other planets. 8th Grade RISE- Students will continue their independent study projects. I will be conferencing with each student this week to check their progress and to make sure they are staying on track. The Extempore strategy we are learning this week is titled “Fallacies Anyone?”. This problem solving strategy is about not allowing assumptions about a particular problem to keep you from seeing all of the solutions. Assumptions can be inaccurate or at least limiting. Problems and solutions become clearer as you test the validity of your assumptions.RISE shirt order forms and money are due by Wednesday. Please don’t forget to put the size on the form and specify youth or adult.

8th Grade Computer Literacy B4-We will continue our keyboarding focus on the whole keyboard and practice to increase our net speed. Students will be learning about files and folders this week and also begin a research project on inventions and inventors. They will put their invention information in Microsoft Word and have a specific list of guidelines to follow. This includes: using a certain font and font size, paragraph alignment, centering, columns, spelling/grammar, headings, and titles. Mrs. Bell , Conference Time: BLUE 5 (1:30-2:45)
FACSStudents are working on the Housing & Interior Design Unit. We have been learning about color schemes. There will be a test on the elements and principles of design on Thursday April 9th.
Food Science We have been analyzing how different types of fat affect the texture and flavor of baked goods.
Computer Lit. G-4 Students continue to work on projects using excel and power point.

8th Grade-Exploring Agriculture-Mr. Brock: This week we will continue Unit 4: Agricultural Mechanics. Students will develop basic shop skills ranging from reading a measuring tape to safely operating various tools. The projects associated with this unit are a blue bird house and a basic wooden toolbox. The lab fee for these activities is $13. My plan times are Gold 4 and Blue 1. VOCAL:Students have completed a review about music symbols and terms. Students continue to prepare for the Spring Concert. This concert will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the West Gym
6th/7th/8th Health and Physical Education:
The students will be continuing a unit on pollution. They will be able to describe problems that are caused by population growth and explain how increased energy use is a pollution problem. In physical education class they will be continuing units on softball/baseball (Sears) and soccer (Dudley). Anyone who needs to make up the mile will need to schedule a time to do so after school with Coach Sears.

8TH Grade CA/Reading – Mrs. Lettau- We will continue with our study of literary concepts/elements - plot. We might begin the next story focusing on plot. We will also complete a MAP practice. 8th Grade Band-We will continue diving into our concert music this week. Because it is a shortened week, students WILL NOT have a practice record due until April 13th or 14th. Please enjoy time with your children as much as I have! Encourage them to play for family and friends over Easter break!
8th Grade Glimpse Mr. Stickel U.S. History:
Students are learning about the early years of our republic and the important decisions that are made in its development after the constitution was approved. If you ever have any questions I can be reached by email at . I can also be reached by calling the middle school office during my conference period. My conference period on Gold Days is from 10:10-11:20 or 1:45-2:50 on Blue Days.
Counselor’s Corner: Students who scored proficient, advanced or improved on last year’s MAP test are eligible to attend an incentive field trip April 24 to the Community Center in Warrensburg. Permission forms were sent home with students last Friday and need to be returned by April 10th.
Student Council’s next meeting is Tuesday, April 14th at 7:30am in the Counselor’s Conference Room. The Executive Board will meet Monday, April 13th at 7:30am in Mrs. Ryals Office. We will be planning for our end of the year activities, including Teacher Appreciation Week.
Pre-Algebra: We will begin a unit on graphing linear equations next week.Students will identify and graph linear equations, find the slope of a line, and use slopes and intercepts to graph linear equations.
Algebra I: We have will take the test over exponents and polynomials on Wednesday. Next week, we will start a unit on factoring polynomials. Students will be able to write the prime factorization of numbers.
