• The Spartanburg District Three Board of Trustees met on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the District Administration Building.
  • The following Board members were present: Mr. Eddie Dearybury, Chairman, Mrs. Ann Brown, Secretary, Mr. Shannon Gault, Mrs. Jodi Gilmer, Mrs. Holly Jolley, Mr. Don Kennedy, Mrs. Kaye Kesler, and Mr. Tracy Schultz.
  • District personnel present included Superintendent Dr. Jim Ray, Dr. Eric Levitt, Rodney Goode, Greg Mack, Bill McPherson, Todd Hardy, Cynthia James, Max Deaton, Kenny Blackwood, Karen Grimm, Cindy Snead, Jan Scott, Wayne Chapman, Sherri Horton, and Kelley Richardson.
  • Dr. Levitt conducted student recognitions. He expressed appreciation to students from Cowpens Elementary for artwork on display in the District Three Boardroom. He also recognized D.J. Robbs,ninth grader at Broome High School, as the winner of the 2011 District Christmas Card Design Competition. Da’Quan Glenn-Jeffries, Broome High School basketball player, was recognized for reaching a milestone of scoring 1000 points on January 6, 2012. Also recognized was Starr Herr, Broome High School student, for placing third in the poetry division of the National Career Development Association’s 46th annual poster and poetry contest. Sabrina Brackett, US History & Government Teacher at Broome High School, earned National Board Certification.

Kim Goode, Coach of the Lady Centurion Varsity Basketball Team, reached her 100th career victory milestone on December 12, 2011.

Chris Condrey, former food service director, was recognized for years of service in the district.

  • Dr. Levitt read proclamationsobserving the week of February 6-10, 2012, as National School Counselor Week, and Tuesday, February 7, 2011, as School Counselor Appreciation Day.He also read a proclamation observing the month of January as Board Appreciation Month. Representative Eddie Tallon and members of the BHS student government also made special presentations to Board members.
  • Chef Tim Page gave a presentation on the Daniel Morgan Technology Center Culinary Arts ProStart Program.
  • Dr. Levitt gave a PowerPoint presentation on Mid-Year MAP Analyses.

  • The Board approved a final draft of the 2012-2013 Spartanburg County School Calendar.
  • The Board approved a draft of the 2012-2013 Budget Development Calendar.
  • Mr. Mack gave an update on the 2011-2012 Capital Projects.
  • By consensus, the Board agreed on the timelines for issuing contracts for certified employees.
  • Dr. Ray reminded the Board that Statement of Economic Interests Forms must be filed electronically again this year.
  • The following items were discussed:

New Middle School Courses – Dr. Levitt reported that Latin and Robotics courses have been added at both middle schools for the spring semester of 2011-2012. Plans are also underway to offer English I to 8th grade ATLAS students in 2012-2013.
