This form is to be included in the Tenure/Promotion Packet of the applicant. The tenure candidate will submit Ten (10) copies of the tenure packet to the department chair by September 1. (Tenure candidates should note that theseten copies of the tenure packet are in addition to copies needed for a departmental review.) The department chair willadd the necessary materials and forward the packets to the Dean of the appropriate College/School by September 22. The Dean submits a letter on the tenure application to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, with copies to the tenure candidate and the chair by September 29. The Tenure candidate may submit his/her comment on Chair’s and Dean’s recommendations to the VPAA by October 7; the VPAA will forward a copy to TRAC. The Dean will submit two (2) copies of the tenure packet to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and 6 copies, one to eachTRAC member by October 7, noon. The Tenure Packet must follow the attached format. Each packet should also include Sections V, VI, and VII in PDF form on an appropriate storage device designated by TRAC.
Tenure reviews of non-tenured department chairs will be conducted by persons designated by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Format to be followed by the candidate for Tenure/Promotion
Section I Administrative Evaluation
A. Dean’s detailed and complete evaluation of the candidate
B. Department chair’s detailed and complete evaluation of the candidate
C. The text of the departmental statement on scholarship
Section II Peer Evaluation
A. Names of two Mount colleagues from whom the candidate has requested letters of evaluation to be sent to the chair of the appropriate department. Colleagues should not be members of candidate’s department nor of TRAC.
B. Name and curriculum vitae of external reviewer, selected by candidate and approved by the chair of the appropriate department, who will provide objective and independent (arm’s length) evaluation of the candidate’s scholarship in a letter of evaluation to be sent to the chair.
C. Letters from two Mount colleagues and external reviewer
Section III Student Letters of Support
A. Names of two former and two current students from whom the candidate has requested letters of evaluation to be sent to the chair of the appropriate department. Current students may include those who were enrolled in the spring semester immediately prior to the tenure application.

Section V A narrative justifying the candidate’s application for tenure, including statements regarding the following:
A. Commitment to the Catholic liberal arts mission of Mount St.
Mary’s University
B. Self-evaluation of teaching, including a discussion of pedagogy, courses taught, the development of new courses or major revisions to existing courses, and advising duties; analysis of teaching evaluations, including how candidate has responded to them, and ways in which ongoing assessment has enhanced teaching skills and course delivery; rationale for selection of courses in Section VII.B.
C. Scholarly and professional activity and service to the profession
D. Active involvement in and service to Mount St. Mary’s University
Section VI Curriculum vitae including information regarding:
A. Publications, research projects, juried artistic exhibitions and performances
B. Presentations at scholarly conferences
C. Membership and evidence of active participation in professional organizations
D. Speeches or presentations given on or off campus
E. Grants applied for and/or received F. Fellowships, honors, and awards G. Committee work and activities
H. Administrative assignments

J. Participation in official University activities and other areas demonstrating commitment to the mission of the University through activities on and off campus
Section VII Supporting Materials
A. Three course syllabi, including courses discussed in Section V.B.
B. Summaries of student evaluations of teaching. This should include tabulations of numerical questions with averages and transcriptions of all student comments from a representative selection of the candidate’s teaching; for example, ten sets of numerical data and four sets of comments.
C. Examples of no more than three publications or research projects. (In the case of coauthored publications, the nature and extent of the candidate’s contribution must be explained.) A brief description of the review process for materials submitted in this section; for example, letters from publisher or editor or submission page of journal website.
Tenure/Promotion Packets will not be returned, although candidates may request return of items of value. It is the responsibility of the candidate to pick up the packet binders at the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
