SCI AmeriCorps Member
A ten-month AmeriCorps position
The mission of Social Capital Inc. (SCI) is to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. We envision a nation where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities. This increase in ‘social capital’ will result in communities that are safer, healthier and more vital. SCI currently operates programs in Woburn Dorchester, and Lynn, MA, running civic engagement initiatives in the areas of Engaging Youth, Building Bridges, Connecting Citizens, and Developing Leaders.
The 19 SCI AmeriCorps members will serve between September 2007 and June 2008, and will build social capital at various sites across our three communities in Woburn, Dorchester, and Lynn. 7 members will serve directly at SCI offices, while the remaining 12 will be placed at partnering organizations in these communities. Access to a car is required for the Woburn and Lynn positions.
General Qualifications (See Reverse for Specific Descriptions)
· A commitment to national service and the mission of SCI.
· A clear plan for living on the AmeriCorps stipend in the Greater Boston area.
· Ability to work on a team and independently
· Good written and oral English communication skills; bilingual communication skills a plus
· The desire to work with diverse constituencies
· Knowledge of community served a plus
· Regular access to a car (required for Woburn, and helpful for Lynn positions)
· College degree or coursework is preferred

Youth Programs Coordinator (10 positions available): Members serving on the Engaging Youth Team will provide leadership training to a core group of youth, including a Youth Council in each SCI community, who will organize projects that engage their peers in Community Service-Learning (CSL) and other civic activities.Responsibilities[2]
· Advise Youth Council on leadership projects such as mini-grants
· Work with youth to develop skills such as event coordination, various community service projects, expanding marketable skills.
· Refine the Civil Rights Forum and political exposure programs to increase their impact and position them to serve as models for others.
· Collaborate with other SCI staff, volunteers & partners on other projects to promote civic engagement, with an emphasis on integrating youth into all SCI activities. / Qualifications

· Knowledge of community a plus
· Basic internet and computer skills
Outreach & Technology Coordinator (5 positions available): Members serving on the Connecting Citizens team will implement technology systems and traditional outreach efforts to connect citizens with the information they need to participate in civic life.
Responsibilities*
· Manage Civic Welcome Wagon program and assist in expansion to other communities
· Compile and send weekly and monthly e-mail blasts
· Maintain Drupal-based community websites and update based on feedback.
· Develop and implement marketing plans
· Assist with the updating of the SCI websites and other marketing items / Qualifications
· Strong writing and communication skills
· Excellent organizational and computer skills
· Knowledge of HTML, PHP and Drupal a plus
· Willingness to take initiative to achieve goals
· Strong project management/multi-tasking abilities
· Ability to work on a team
Volunteer Coordinator (4 positions available): Members serving on the Leveraging Volunteers team will recruit and coordinate adult volunteers who will serve community members, and create volunteer management plans that increase the capacity of partnering organizations to recruit and manage volunteers.
Responsibilities*· Coordinate volunteer management and recognition plans
· Design volunteer descriptions to meet unmet needs
· Design volunteer positions geared toward supporting positive youth development
· Recruit new volunteers and place into suitable roles at community organizations
· Manage volunteer listings on SCI and other volunteer websites / Qualifications
· Strong writing and communication skills
· Excellent organizational and project-management skills
· Strong project management/multi-tasking abilities
· Experience volunteering preferred, managing volunteers a plus
