Missouri Man Wins International Association’s Award for Taxicab Operator of the Year

(ROCKVILLE, Maryland)—The Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) is pleased to announce it has named Bill George of Kansas City Transportation Group as the 2014 Taxicab Fleet Operator of the Year.

Bill George left college his junior year to help out with his family’s business. When the family sold the company in 1997, George stayed on as CEO and eventually bought back the airport shuttle business and cab and sedan business in 2002.

“The short time away gave me a completely different perspective as to how to run the company,” he said. “My core team was reunited with a special sense of purpose.”

Alfred LaGasse, Chief Executive Officer of the TLPA, said George was selected for this award in recognition of his strong focus on continuously expanding his fleet in various areas to make it the best in the nation.

“Bill is always looking for new ways to take his company and services to the next level,” LaGasse said. “He consistently implements new changes that immensely benefit both customers and employees.”

George attributes a great deal of the success that Kansas City Transportation has experienced to the loyal and hardworking people in the industry, like Regional Vice-President Terry O’Toole and Comptroller Kathy Dollar. George focuses on pursuing the newest technology to ensure his services remain competitive. He created the “10/10 Taxi” concept that ensures customers receive a car within 10 minutes with a $10 flat flare within five miles. He also started a new fleet of black sedans called zTrip that users hail by using a mobile app.

George will be presented with the award on October 16th at the TLPA’s annual convention being held at The Grand Hyatt San Antonio/Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. This year marks the TLPA’s 96th Annual Convention & Trade Show, the world’s largest gathering of for-hire fleet executives.

Established in 1917, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) is a non-profit trade association of and for the private passenger transportation industry. Its extensive membership spans the globe to include 1,100 taxicab companies, executive sedan and limousine services, airport shuttle fleets, non-emergency medical transportation companies, and paratransit services.
