Application Guidelines

CCSA is using an abbreviated version of the CA Department of Education’s (CDE) application. Please note the selected nominee will have to complete the CDE application in its entirety in June, and applicants must have more than 8 years teaching experience.

Submitting the Application

Email a PDF copy of the completed application packet to by end of day on April 26, 2016. The nominee will be notified on May 26th and will be announced as the nominee at the CCSA Sacramento Regional meeting in June.

Please note the selection of the finalist will include a site visit in May.

Applicant Résumé, Letter, & Essays

  1. Please include a copy of your most recent résumé.
  2. Introductory Letter from the Applicant to the Evaluation Committee (1 page). The letter should present a powerful statement about the applicant and his or her commitment to continued achievement for all students, and should:
  3. Explain what it is like to be a student in your class.
  4. Relate an inspirational vignette from your own teaching experience that illustrates an important aspect of education.
  5. Paint a clear picture that helps the reader to envision a typical day.
  6. Include a brief example of an ideal real day and a brief example of how you turned a challenging moment into a teachable moment.
  7. Essays (1-2 pages per question):
  8. Professional Biography: Describe the factors that influenced your becoming a teacher as well as your greatest contributions and accomplishments in education.
  9. Student Progress: Describe how you know your students are achieving. Include descriptions illustrating your use and understanding of data. Consider the following when answering this question:
  10. Assessment methods used
  11. What you do with information to improve instruction
  12. How you assess and address the needs of students at-risk, and how you differentiate instruction to meet the variety of needs of at-risk students and how you differentiate instruction to meet the variety of classroom needs.

Letters of Support

Include three letters of support from among the following: charter administrator, principal, dean, colleague, student, parent, or community civic leader. All letters should extend the application by covering areas or examples not addressed elsewhere.

Letters of support are limited to one page each. Do not include other materials, such as portfolios or press clippings.
