What is a Family Fundraising Team?

You create a team made up of family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. Your team comes together on May 1, 2011, in honor of your child, to support the Run for Sight to benefit the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments.

Forming a team is easy to do and a fun way to raise money for a great cause!

1. Let us know you would like to participate! Contact Natalie Hoover at 314.369.3090 or with your team name and contact information. You may also contact Leslie Fortner at 636.485.8240 or . Examples of past team names include: Brady’s Bunch, Team Avery and Rocco’s Rockin’ Strollers.

2. Create your customized team registration page. Information on creating your page is included in this packet.

3. Invite family and friends to join your team. There are two ways to be a team member:

1. Participate in the 5K Run/2-Mile Fun Walk:

-Register online. Go to Register as an individual, family of four or corporate/community team. Ask the participant to select your team name from the list of Family Fundraising Teams.

OR

-Complete a paper registration form and submit it to the Team Captain or the Center with payment. Please remember to clearly mark your team name on all paper registration forms.

NOTE: Run for Sight t-shirts will be given to 5K Run/2-Mile Fun Walk participants who register online or submit a paper registration form by April 11th. Any participants who register after April 11th will not be guaranteed a t-shirt.

2. Make a Donation:

-Donate online. Go to and select “Sleepyheads” to make an online donation to your team. Ask the participant to select your team name from the list of Family Fundraising Teams.

OR

-Donations can be collected by the Team Captain or mailed to the Center.

NOTE: Run for Sight sleep masks will be mailed to participants who make a donation of $30 or more before April 11th.

  1. Share your personal story. Write letters and send emails to family and friends asking them to support your team. If they are unable to participate on race day, they can make a donation to your team.
  1. Create a team t-shirt (optional). Many teams design a t-shirt for all their team members to wear on race day. A team shirt is a fun way to promote your team name!
  1. Submit registration forms and payment. Please submit any registration forms, fees and donations you may have collected to the Center by April 1.

  1. Pick up race packets. You can pick up race packets for your team participants on April 30th, 9am - 3pm at the Center. We prefer the team captain or a representative from your team pick-up the team shirts all at once if at all possible.
  1. Race Day! Enjoy the run/walk with your team members!

Create Your Team Fundraising Page

Register your Family Fundraising Team Online:

  1. Go to
  2. Select “Click Here to Become a Fundraiser”
  1. Enter your team name, contact information and create a username/password

After your team has been created, your team name will be selectable from a drop-down list on the registration page for individual participants, a family of four and corporate/community groups to join your team. A list of team members will be viewable on your homepage and you will see how much money has been raised to date. Paper registrations and donations by check will not be included in your online total, but will go towards your overall team total.

Get creative! As the Team Captain, you are able to customize your team homepage with information about you and your family. Tell your story, share a photo and get everyone excited about joining you to support a great cause! We are happy to help you register your team online if you need assistance or have any questions.

2. Can I donate in addition to my 5K Run/2-Mile Fun Walk registration fee?

Yes. During the registration process, you will be asked if you would like to make an additional donation. Please enter your donation amount and it will be added to your registration fee. You will have one payment transaction with the combined total of your registration fee and donation.

  1. What if I don’t want my name to appear in the team list?

You will be asked during registration if you would like to make your donation anonymous. By selecting “yes”, your name will not appear on the team fundraising webpage.

  1. Why I am being charged a processing fee in addition to my registration fee or donation amount?

Like all merchants that accept credit cards, Get Me Registered pays a gateway and a processor (two different companies) for the ability to process your payment. They pay a percentage plus a flat fee. Therefore, they have structured their rates in the same manner (flat, plus percentage) so that A) their processing costs are covered, and B) they can pay their employees and service providers to keep the business running since they do not charge consumers to use their site.

5. Will I receive a Run for Sight t-shirt?

All 5K Run/2-Mile Fun Walk participants who register before April 11th will receive a Run for Sight t-shirt. Any participants who register after April 11th will not be guaranteed a t-shirt. Supporters who make a donation of $30 or more will receive a sleep mask.

How to Promote a Family Team

You have made the decision to start a family team. Now it is time to get the word out to your family, friends and community! Below you will find creative ways to promote your story and family fundraising team.

  1. Create a blog where people can read your personal story and stay updated on your fundraising progress. You can view Team Avery’s blog as an example, ( Numerous free blog websites are available, like Blogger and Wordpress.
  1. Social Networking. Post a link on FACEBOOK or Twitter to your Team Fundraising Page. Ask family and friends who have joined your team to also post the link on their FACEBOOK page. This is an easy (and free!) way to spread the word about your team.
  1. Free Press. Include information about your team in a company newsletter, church bulletin, local newspaper or community events calendar.
  1. Send a letter or email to family and friends sharing your child’s story. ( See attached sample letter)
  1. Include a link to your fundraising webpage in your work or personal email signature. Every person who receives an email from you will see a link to your page!

Fundraising Ideas

Family and friends are a great way to raise money for your team, but there are many other ways to help reach your goal.

  1. Company Matching Program: Many companies have a matching gift program for employees who make charitable contributions. Ask your contributors if they work for a company that has a matching gift program. You can receive a match from their company, as well as yours. Ask them to contact their human resources department for more information on their company matching policy.
  1. Casual Day: Everybody loves wearing jeans to work! Coordinate a day with your office manager where your co-workers can donate $5 or $10 to your fundraising efforts in exchange for a jeans day.
  1. Bake Sale: Organize a bake sale at your child’s school or at your local church.
  1. Car Wash: Host a car wash in your local neighborhood.
