Call for Papers: the 24th Annual Edward F. Kelly Evaluation Conference, friday April 12th, 2013

The Kelly Conference is a student-led conference. This call for proposal abstracts is directed toward graduate and other post-secondary students interested in evaluation.

About the Kelly Conference

The Edward F. Kelly Evaluation Conference is a regional graduate student organized one-day evaluation conference, whose goal is to provide graduate and other post-secondary students in the field of evaluation an opportunity to present original research and network with professionals and faculty in the field of evaluation. This is a regional conference with participation from Universities in upstate New York and eastern and central Ontario. This year the conference consists of three main components:

·  A preconference social networking event, held the evening of Thursday April 11, 2013;

·  A keynote address by Dr. Rodney Hopson, President of the American Evaluation Association (http://comm.eval.org/eval/myprofile/profile?UserKey=21e80e63-1b21-4638-b555-0fe420b7b857); and

·  Concurrent presentations of student research (presentations, poster presentations, and roundtable discussions).

Presentation Formats

Paper sessions: Presenters will have 20 minutes to present their papers, allowing for 10 minutes questions from conference participants. Participants are expected to complete and submit a written version of their paper by April 5, 2013 for publication in the conference proceedings.

Round table: Presenters will lead a 10 minute discussion concerning the evaluation topic of choice (topical round table), a recent or ‘classic’ book relevant to evaluation (book review), or present an evaluation case study, experience, or dilemma (vignette), followed by a 20 minutes discussion with roundtable participants. Those presenting papers are expected to submit written versions by April 5, 2013 for publication in the conference proceedings.

Poster: The poster option gives presenters the opportunity to visually display ideas, concepts, results, etc. from their papers permitting informal discussion and interaction. Those presenting papers are expected to submit written versions by April 5, 2013 for publication in the conference proceedings.

General Proposal Guidelines

All papers are to be authored and presented by students. Co-authored work is allowed. Presentations can be oriented toward:

·  Any domain of practice – education, health, social work, etc.

·  Any discipline – psychology, political science, education, etc.

·  Any methodology – empirical, conceptual, theory, analytical, etc.

·  Any focus – process, methodology, theory, utilization, etc.

Proposal Format

Cover page (1 page; form attached) should include: Title of proposal, author’s name, e-mail address, telephone number, indication of presentation format (paper session, roundtable, or poster session).

The proposal (1-2 pages, double-spaced) should include: significance of the study or evaluation work, objectives, perspectives or theoretical framework, methods and/or techniques, results, and conclusions.

Submission of Proposal

Email proposal to by midnight, February 8, 2013, EST. Proposals will be peer reviewed. Authors will be notified of decisions by February 22nd, 2013.
