Course Description
Practical application of theoretical knowledge and basic skills in providing holistic care for children and their families’ emphases is placed on the use of nursing process and problem based-learning in promoting and restoring health of children and their families.
Specific Learning Objectives
As a result of taking this course, the student will be able to:
 Apply the nursing process utilizing critical thinking skills when planning the care of individuals and their families.
Compose holistic nursing process documentation with emphasis on diagnosis, planning, implementing, analysis and evaluation of care, considering special needs of diverse cultural populations.
Identify the influence of the expected and actual stage of growth & development as it relates to the personal; inter-personal and social needs of each client and family.

Accurately document the nursing process in the client’s medical record when applicable.
Perform all technical skills including medication administration with 100% accuracy.
Demonstrate collaboration with members of the health care team to implement management principles in the care of clients and their families.
Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication skills with members of the health care team, clients and their families.
Continuously analyze interactions and develop alternate responses, as appropriate to enhance communication techniques.
Continually collaborate with clients and their families utilizing a variety of teaching methods to assist clients and families in attaining their goals.
Identify and differentiate nursing roles in each clinical environment.
Participate in collaborative discharge planning, teaching and the identification of community resources to facilitate optimum health.
Achieve personal and professional growth as they transition through the nursing program in preparation for professional practice.
Cognitive:
Take a systematic approach and make rational decisions based on research findings and scientific background when caring with clients in the pediatrics wards.
Demonstrate skills in critical thinking way in the use of the nursing process with children, families, and communicate experiencing complex health problem.
Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, understanding and capacity for critical thinking and analysis.
Psychomotor:
. Develop a Nursing Care Plan (Assess, plan, implement and evaluate) for children in collaboration with health care providers.
Utilize the nursing process and developmental theories to provide holistic care for children from infancy to adolescence and their families
Identify bio-psychosocial problem in order to develop recommendation, management and follow-up to help clients to reach optimal level of wellness.
Work interdependently with the health care team to provide effective care for the children based on the nursing standard and nursing code of ethics.
Learn independently about child health nursing using a variety of information sources.
Demonstrate an ability to change the wrong practice of the nurses in the different pediatric wards using the updated studies.
Participate in activities that promote professional development and enrich the profession.
Utilize interpersonal and technical skills in a reliable and accountable manner during practicing professional nursing.
Assess - and provide support -psychological and physiological changes in different child age group.
Provide a holistic nursing care (NCP) will enable the family to maintain health and prevent any complications for their child (through the H.E in the MCHC)
Develop a discharge plan for child and their families that will be used after discharge.
Provide student with skill they need to become competent, to become caring nurse for the child and their family.
Discuss issues related to health of children and their families.

  • Complete Physical Examination
  • Bathing
  • Feeding - Bottle feeding, NGT feeding, and others methods.
  • Intravenous access - IVF, Blood transfusion, Medications, and Other’s.
  • Canulation
  • Application of O2 therapy.
  • Sample collection - blood, urine, sputum, and stool.
  • Nursing Care
  • Communicate with child and their family.
  • Therapeutic Play
Affective:
Communicate effectively with Child's, Families, Colleagues and Health Care Providers in clinical sitting in order to provide appropriate care based on the client’s needs.
Establish therapeutic relationship with children and their families that help to achieve and developed care plan.

The students will be able to gain the satisfaction of the nurses while caring with the clients in the pediatric wards.
Demonstrate an understanding of social, ethical, cultural, and political concepts to the provision of child health care.
Demonstrate the practice skills required of a competence practitioner.
Discuss the effectiveness of specific health promotion strategies for children and their families using a scientific and updated knowledge.
