REPORTS TO:DOMESTIC SUPERVISOR

ACCOUNTABLE TO:FACILITIES/H & S MANAGER

BASED AT:ST ELIZABETH HOSPICE

JOB SUMMARY

To carry out general cleaning duties throughout the Hospice in order to maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Damp dust, mop and generally clean the Day Unit, communal areas and offices, using the equipment supplied.

2.Clean bathrooms, toilets, sluice and to wash or hoover all floors daily.

3.Refill dishwashers and ensure sufficient chemicals are in autodosers.

4.Remove all domestic waste from Day Unit, offices and other areas as necessary.

5.Co-ordinate with Day Unit regarding out of hours meetings and events and to prioritise daily work.

6.Ensure that all soap, hand towels and toilet roll dispensers are fully stocked at all times.

7.Undertake training when required.

8.Provide holiday and sickness cover and to work additional hours as necessary.

9.To spot clean upholstery and carpets when necessary.

10.To liaise daily with Education Department and set up meeting rooms as required

PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To recognise indications of staff stress and to facilitate staff support.

2.To participate in the induction of all new staff as required.

3.To recognise the value of volunteer contribution and play an active part in their support and development where appropriate.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To participate in the Hospice education programme.

2.To give feedback from attended education programmes/study days.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

1.To devise with the Facilities/H & S Manager a personal development plan in line with the Hospice objectives and personal needs.

2.To maintain and increase personal professional skills.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To work at all times within the policies of the Hospice and act within Care Standards at all times.

2.To ensure effective use of resources.

3.To respect at all times the confidentiality of information covering patients, staff and volunteers.

4.To play an active part in the development and maintenance of good relationships with all who have business with the Hospice.

5.To promote the Hospice philosophy of care towards patients, relatives and visitors.

Because of the special nature of the Hospice and its work the postholder may on occasion be asked to undertake other duties to help maintain our high standard of care.

A valid driving licence
Knowledge & Experience / Previous cleaning/domestic role
COSHH awareness / Working in a healthcare environment.
Specific Skills / Ability to communicate well with people on routine and operational matters
Ability to prepare, operate and maintain products and equipment required for the role
Be able to follow agreed cleaning procedures and schedules to a high standard and in a timely manner
Ability to understand and comply with Health & Safety policy and legislation / Ability to drive and transport goods and people
Personal Qualities / At ease communicating with patients and relatives
