Shell Twilight Basketball Youth Development Co-ordinator
Duties and responsibilities
In order to ensure the successful delivery of the programme, the Co-ordinator must be capable of fulfilling the following:
Delivery
- Encourage and enable wider participation in programmes
- Take a youth led approach to TBB
- Ensure outcome led delivery.
- Work closely with other TBB Co-ordinators to ensure the smooth delivery of the programme nationwide
- Support the recruitment and training of sessional staff and the on-going development of delivery material
- Organise tournaments and games between TBB locations nationwide, including visits by Glasgow Rocks Professional Basketball players.
- Support communications strategy including press releases, web, social media, case studies and community profile.
- Implement and ensure adherence to all Child Protection and Health and safety including Risk Assessment requirements.
Ambassador Programme
- Manage a national volunteer programme
- Liaise with sessional ‘mentors’ who provide support for volunteers
- Plan and coordinate residential training events for young people
- Identify and develop volunteer opportunities for participants
- Identify training for participants according to personal development needs
- Support young people & mentors with accreditation through Community Achievement Awards
Project Development
- Develop working relationships with local partners who support recruitment, promotion and/or delivery of the programme
- Identify new areas to deliver the TBB programme and work with local partners to deliver this
- Create pathways and identify additional opportunities for participant personal development and participation
- Plan, attend and action outcomes of quarterly meetings with staff in each Twilight Location
- Implement youth engagement and consultation plan to ensure young people’s views are gathered and inform future support and delivery
- Support with a website resource for delivery staff developing working with partners and subject experts to develop content for educational messages and content to support staff
- Identify potential external volunteers and work with them to ensure a meaningfulvolunteering experiencewith TBB
- Identify potential local funding sources/ in kind contribution opportunities and work with the TBB Manager to secure where possible.
Project monitoring and evaluation
- Maintain an accurate account of all projects andreport their findings to the Shell Twilight Basketball Manager
- Collect and collate feedback and evaluation materials to evidence outcomes and inform future delivery
- Support sessional staff to utilise the Upshot on line monitoring system
- Support with the collection quarterly feedback from sessional staff
- Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings
- Report on a regular basis to Programme Manager
- Contribute to reports for Scottish Sports Futures and Programme Funders
Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) wide
• Support SSF Awards night coordination and implementation
• Support SSF fundraising events with promotion and attendance
• Promote the work of SSF to local and national partners
• Contribute to and support funding applications as required
Person Specification
Requirements for post holder
Essential
- Relevant experience in youth work/working with young people
- Educated to HND level in a relevant field
- Excellent interpersonal skills, experience of working directly with young people and community groups
- Experience of collating feedback and producing evaluation materials to evidence outcomes and inform future delivery
- A passion for working with young people in sport and supporting their development
- Understanding of issues affecting young people
- Ability to work in partnership
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Excellent computer skills proficient with MS office applications
- Able to maintain accurate records in support of monitoring and evaluation
- Hold a current clean drivers licence and be prepared to undergo clearance from Disclosure Scotland/PVG
Desirable
- Relevant qualification in youth work/sport
- Ability to coordinate and experience of a volunteer programme
- Experience of delivering physical activity sessions
- Training in child protection, first aid and development work with young people
- Experience of participation in sport and physical activity
