Essential Skills Focus: Computer Use (understand how to use an on-line trip planner - Navigo), Document Use ( reading a calendar and a bus schedule on-line, entering information), Thinking Skills (making decisions –which option is the longest or the shortest)
Task: Use Navigo to plan a trip/use the bus schedule
Purpose: Students will
·  students will use the computer to interact with and understand Winnipeg’s Navigo Trip Planner
·  students will compare different options of taking the bus from school to downtown
Materials: computer lab with internet access,
worksheet 1 (instructions for using Navigo), worksheet 2 (related questions)
Learning Style: Visual
Time: 2-3 lessons / Method:
1.  Discuss different ways people can find the bus schedule: word of mouth, bus signs, and maps, phoning: 986-5700 for info and internet.
2.  Hand out worksheet 1.
3.  Discuss how we will use a system to find the most direct bus route from school to downtown.
4.  Go to the computer lab and have students log onto the Internet.
5.  Follow the instructions on worksheet 1 together.
Follow Up: Have students answer the questions on
worksheet 2.
Debrief / Transfer: Ask students where they are
going to travel by bus after school or this week. Ask
students what their origin and destination will be.
Encourage students to practice using Navigo with the
above information at home or at the library.
