12Last Day of 2014 school year
Principal’s Desk
The year continues to race along and students and teachers are busy completing in-class assessments and finalizing learning programs in preparation for the preparation of Semester Two report cards.
While teachers continue to prepare the formal Semester Two reports, our entire school is continuing to work towards our Term 4 Positive Behaviour Reward. As part of Ashwell State School’s O.W.L.S. Positive Behaviour Plan, our students are allocated a ‘stamp’ each day for making positive behaviour choices- both inside and outside of the classroom. Students- whom are absent from school- are still allocated a reward stamp.
The Term 4 Positive Behaviour Reward is an exciting excursion to ‘Bounce Inc.’- at Tingalpa, stopping for a picnic lunch on the way and an ice cream on the return journey. As has been the expectation in previous school terms- the maximum number of missing stamps- which still allows student participation in Rewards Day- is two. If any student has more than 2 stampsmissing from their Term 4 Stamp Reward Chart they will be unable to participate in the excursion to ‘Bounce Inc.’- an alternative program will be provided at school for these students.
In Term 3 the entire school enjoyed our Rewards Day- with 100% student participation- 100% of our students had maintained positive behaviour choices- ensuring that no student had lost more than two stamps. This was a wonderful achievement- and we have our fingers crossed that we will reach this goal once again!
Parent Teacher Interviews
While all parents/ carers are welcome to make a time to discuss their child/ s progress at any time throughout the year, next week is designated as the week for formalparent- teacher interviews. If you have requested an interview, you will have received a letter yesterday outlining the time for your interview. If you have requested an interview and have not received this letter- please contact the school as soon as possible.
School Leadership Positions: 2015
The end of the school year also signifies time for the election of our school leadership positions. At Ashwell SS we have the following positions:
- School Captain
- School Vice- Captain
- Sports Captain
- School Leaders- all Year 6 students
This week Mrs Marshall began discussions and preparations with students currently in Year 5. The students will work on speeches for the relevant positions should they nominate. The students will then have the opportunity to present these speeches in front of all of the students, Prep to Year 6, at a special assembly on Thursday the 4th of December, starting at 9am. Parents of the nominating students will be notified and invited to be a part of this assembly. All students will be a part of the voting process. All positions will be announced at our Presentation Night, on Tuesday 9th December.
Presentation Night
This year our Presentation Night will be held at Ashwell State School! While exact details will be forwarded in the Week 9 newsletter, this is a rough guide of how the evening will progress:
- 5- 6pm: P&C Hawaiian BBQ Dinner
- 6pm:Class Performances

Year 6 Graduation
A bigthankyou to the offers of assistance from our very generous parents and community members to help us in organizing some of the key elements required for the evening, i.e. stage and some floodlighting- Michelle Cole; super fertilizer for greening up our grassy areas- Des Friels. If there is anyway you think that you could be helpful- e.g. helping to set- up on the days prior; lending of hay bales; assisting the P&C; hanging up fairy lights, etc. please let us know.
On the evening we will be asking families to come along- bringing campingchairs and/ or picnicrugs, and our wonderful students will be providing the entertainment.
All students are being asked to wear a white shirt (t-shirt/ blouse/ shirt) and denim- shorts/ jeans/ skirt. Any additional costuming requirements will be organized by the school.
Once again details regarding the evening, including P&C meal options, will be forwarded to all families in Week 8 and 9. Please keep this date free!
Volunteers’ Afternoon Tea
Throughout the school year we have numerous parents, grandparents and other community volunteers give up their time to help us to make our school great! Helping with learning programs, helping out at working bees; serving food at the cross country or athletics carnival; donating resources; providing transport to interschoolsport; and the list goes on.
This year the school is hosting an afternoon tea to have the opportunity to thank these volunteers, Wednesday3rdDecember- time to be advised on the invitations. Invitations will be forwarded home on Wednesday of next week, fingers crossed we don’t miss anyone out!
