WHAT DEFILES A MAN?

2/25/2009

In today’s permissive society we have many pressures to turn aside from the teachings that are taught in the word of God as to how we are to live this life. We have those who are influencing our thinking, who are in powerful places in our society such as television or schools and colleges etc. around the country. These people have been fooled into thinking that they have all of the answers to life, and are forcing their views on society. Many people are impressed by them and the status that they hold in this world, and hold them up as roll models.

Well let us see what the Bible tells us about our daily lives and the things that defile a man. First we will go to Romans 12:1, I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Now in 1 Corinthians 3:16 know you not that you are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

Now this scripture is written at the judgment seat of Christ, where the scriptures talk about a man’s works, and how he builds on the foundations that Jesus laid out for us. How we labor and our motives for our labor, etc. Many people have confused works with sin, but here we have a very stern warning of destruction for defilement of our temples. Here he refers to more than our bodies, but our souls and our minds, that portion which makes up our personalities. Now if we are to treat ourselves as the temples of God we should not commit sin in the temple of God.

Now let me take the time to explain what the Spirit is dealing with here. We will not reach perfection on this earth so long as we are flesh, and God knows us better than we know ourselves. He is talking to the Christians who are striving to do God’s will in their lives, and he has put his Spirit in you to give you strength when you are weak, to encourage you when you are sad and discouraged, and to lift you up when you stumble and fall, to give you strength to overcome your weaknesses. But you must yield yourselves to his guidance, and repent when we are overcome with a sin, such as king David did when God sent Nathan to confront him with his sin. The Holy Spirit will confront you when sin overcomes you. The Holy Spirit is your comforter, and God loves you more than you love yourselves, and he wants you love him enough to live a Godly life.

What defiles a man? Let us now go to the words of Jesus in Mathew 15, When the Scribes and the Pharisees complained to him about his disciples eating with unwashed hands. This is a commandment that is made by man and not God. These people were more worried about serving man than God. Jesus said in the 13th. Verse that every plant that is not planted by the Heavenly Father shall be routed up. These people were the leaders of that day and everyone looked up to them, and they were misleading the people just like our leaders are today.

In the 16th. Verse Jesus asked his disciples if they were yet without understanding. He told them that what you eat goes into the belly and is cast out through the draught, but those things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemies, these are the things that defile a man.

The Bible is very clear about the sins that will send your soul into eternal damnation, our society today promotes these sins. The fifth chapter of Ephesians names these sins with this warning; let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Chapter 6 verse 12, for we wrestle not against flesh and bloodbut against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

This world has sold out to Satan, and is in rebellion against God, and many of them profess to be Christians, but are professing in vain. You cannot serve two masters. They will say you cannot judge, (meaning, don’t tell me that I am living in sin) But the word of God has already judged them. We as servants of God must proclaim the truth of the word or their blood will be on our hands. We hold the key to eternal life in our hands, Shall we be silent?

Yours in Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior,

Brother Sam.
