Greetings Parents and Guardians,

Now that Back to School Night is behind us and we settle into the Fall Season and beyond her at High Bridge Elementary School. There are some changes from last year that you need to be aware of and familiarize yourselves with.

1.  As a way to promote the Health Schools Initiative that is not only County wide, but Nation wide thanks to the efforts of the First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama. We here at High Bridge Elementary are committed to promoting her efforts as well. We are no longer accepting cakes, cupcakes and cookies, doughnuts and pastries as a way to celebrate special occasions during the school day. This sends the opposite message, regarding a healthy lifestyle. I am encouraging parents to bring in healthy alternatives such as popcorn, pretzels, sugar free pastries, fruit snacks etc. The only exception will be for Harvest at the end of October and Holiday season during the month of December. I hope you understand that your child’s healthy habits is one of our priorities her at High Bridge Elementary School.

2.  As you are aware the school day begins at 7:45 a.m. with all children ready to begin the school day. However, there may be times when either the school bus is running behind schedule or if your child is being dropped off via car or van that lateness can occur. With that said, at 7:45 a.m. students must be escorted into school with an adult. There is no adult supervision beyond 7:45 a.m. This then becomes a safety issue if you let your child walk into school unescorted by an adult. The person bringing their child to school must physically get out of the vehicle and escort them to the office and sign them in as late.

3.  Lastly, at the end of the school day, the latest time for an early dismissal is 1:30 p.m.

The secretaries are asked not to interrupt classroom teachers and instruction after that time. If you must schedule appointments please respect the school’s policy.

Best Regards,

William J. Kelly
