Fred E. Simpson

F

red Simpson was born February 5, 1956, in Jamesport, Missouri to Virginia Mae King and William Wesley Simpson. He had one brother, Gary, a half-brother, Jeff, and three sisters, Linda, Jena, and Carleen. Fred grew up in Marysville, Kansas and attended Valley Heights High School. Fred later moved to McPherson, Kansas where he worked in Construction and married Dawn Simpson on December 17, 1983. Together, they have five children; Jennifer, Travis, Heather, Jeremy, and Dustin.

In the later part of his career, Fred went to work at NCRA and was a proud member of the Fire Brigade. However, when it came to controlled burns, his family likes to point out that they often became “uncontrolled”. Fred was a man who never met a stranger, always had a joke, and was someone that everyone wanted to know.

Fred was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He knew just about everything that had to do with hunting pheasant, quail, coyote, and deer. He said you could look in the Kansas Record book for the biggest buck, and his name would be there. Fred also loved to collect coins. He would spend countless hours finding out information on each and every coin he had. Fred also got great pleasure out of the countryside, seeing wildlife and cruising town. His children fondly remember riding around and looking at Christmas lights each and every year. It was a wonderful tradition.

When Fred wasn’t hunting or researching coins, you could also find him boating, providing information for his family and friends, or working in his shop. Fred was a very skilled craftsman who built the home for he and Dawn, and he could fix just about anything (maybe not quite the way it should have been). Fred had a very sharp-witted sense of humor and was always telling a joke or playing a joke. Dawn and his kids remember one time when he used his prosthetic leg to hold red licorice at Halloween.

Above all, Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who put his family before himself. Fred knew that life was short and took full advantage of his “2ndchnc”. We know that he is at peace in heaven and dancing with the Angels. It is a comfort to his family that he is no longer in pain, as he was for so many years.

Survivors include: his wife, Dawn; sons, Travis Corwin (Julie) of Houston, TX, Jeremy Corwin (Tricia) of McPherson, KS, and Dustin Simpson (Melissa) of Streetsboro, OH; daughters, Jennifer Simpson (fiancé Mathew Holguin) of Topeka, KS and Heather Whitton (Jon) of Topeka, KS; sisters, Linda Roy (Kenny) of Aurora, MO and Carleen Martin of Frankfurt, KS; a half-brother, Jeff Simpson of Southaven, MS; 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Simpson, sister, Jena Novak, and son, Shane Frederick Simpson.

In Loving Memory

Fred E. Simpson
