A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND EUGENE LEROY NETTLES, SENIOR, OF LAKE CITY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS COMMUNITY, LAKE CITY, FLORENCE COUNTY, AND THE STATE.
Whereas, a native of Lake City, E. LeRoy Nettles was born September 15, 1929, to L. Clayton and Marian Rutland Nettles; and
Whereas, Mr. Nettles attended The Citadel and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, cum laude, in 1953; and
Whereas, Mr. Nettles began his legal career in private practice with George Albert Thomy and is currently senior partner of Nettles, Turbeville, and Reddeck and General Counsel for The Citizens Bank; and
Whereas, as one of the most skilled and able attorneys of the Florence County Bar, Mr. Nettles’ legal career has led him down such paths as distinguished member of the House of Representatives, tenacious Florence County attorney, South Carolina Highway Commissioner for the Twelfth Circuit, and member of the South Carolina Juvenile Placement and Aftercare Commission; and
Whereas, while advancing in his professional life, Mr. Nettles has remained involved in his community where he has been an active leader in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Jaycees, and Lake City First Baptist Church; and
Whereas, for his outstanding accomplishments in the practice of law, LeRoy Nettles received the Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from the Alumni Association of the South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Nettles also was appointed a Kentucky General by Governor John Y. Brown, Jr., and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Richard W. Riley; and
Whereas, Mr. Nettles and his wife, Beverly Herlong Nettles, have passed along his legal genes to three children, LeRoy Nettles, Jr., Marian Nettles Jay, and Michael Nettles, all of whom have practiced law with him; and
Whereas, for his exemplary career and outstanding personal qualities, the members of the House of Representatives would like to recognize E. LeRoy Nettles, Senior. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize and commend Eugene LeRoy Nettles, Senior, of Lake City for his outstanding contributions to his community, Lake City, Florence County, and the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Eugene LeRoy Nettles, Senior, of Lake City.
