Lesley thought they were very westernised so she was amazed to find how Asian I really was.

Australian immigration provided her with a wonderful opportunity to review her value systems and take the best from each culture eg. she had never considered social justice as an issue. They gave to the poor because it was expected of them.

For the first time in her life, she stood up to Dad in an effort to gain some independence - the challenge was to do it in a respectful manner.

Lesley and her brother did their matriculation in that year (1972) and both did quite well and were awarded Commonwealth University Scholarships.

Uni was understandably an even greater change and provided opportunity for further re-evaluation. It was really only in her first year at Uni that she started to feel that she fitted in. Until then, life had a feeling of unreality, a dreamlike quality.

She never expected to work in anything other than in a professional capacity (after Uni). Finding out that students worked over the holidays was a big surprise. Nevertheless she got a job at Myer in the city over Xmas and packing toilet paper at Bowater Scott.

She graduated from Melbourne University with a degree in Dentistry in 1977. (BDSc)

Lesley started working (5 days a week) 4 days at a private practice and 1 day at the dental hospital in the paedriatric dentistry area.

She met Peter in 1982 and they were married in 1984 and have two children.
