PUNXSUTAWNEY

Sug’r Bear, Pennsylvania’s No. 1 country show band and long-time local favorite, will perform a free concert from 7 to 9 p.m.Friday, July 13. Lead vocalist Cyndi Anderson said the entire band is looking forward to the show, which comes the night before the scheduled start of the Relay for Life. “Punxsutawney is like our second home; it¹s where we got our start 14 years ago,” she said. She said Barclay Square was here, in 1993, Sug¹r Bear won its first of three Western PA Jimmy Dean-True Value Country Showdown Awards. “We¹ve also played the Groundhog Festival in years past, and have always been warmly welcomed and treated great,” Anderson said. “Playing this free concert for the Punxsutawney Relay for Life is our way of saying, “Thank-you, Punxsutawney - for everything.” The concert will include two different shows, the first starting at 7 p.m. The band will perform hits by Sugarland, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Little Big Towns, Craig Morgan and Brooks & Dunn, to name a few. Don¹t be surprised if you find the lead singer, fiddle player or guitar player strolling by you, or sitting down next to you to play you a little tune or sing you a song. So come early, bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for a great evening of country music from Sug¹r Bear. The band also extends a thank-you to Jess and Duane Miller of Miller Brothers Furniture for their generosity in providing the sound and lighting equipment for the concert. In addition to Anderson, band members include Jeff Carrier on drums; Dennis Hillibrand on bass and vocals; Rodney Thompson on vocals and rhythm acoustic guitar; John Powell on vocals and fiddle; and Jim Fitzgerald on lead guitar. A special appearance by 15-year-old Hannah Carrier, third-place winner in the 2006 PA Fiddle Championship-Teen Division, will leave you tapping your toes.
