To Clubs competing in the Time Trial of the 40th Dublin Sculling Ladder:
Attached the final confirmed results. Once again many thanks to Guinness's who have sponsored the Ladder since it was started forty years ago,and who also sponsor the Millennium Challenges against Cork and Belfast. Dublin will be the hosts in 2006, probably in September following the successful races on the Marina this year. Both the races were won by the Dublin Scullers, Albert Maher and Siobh†n Jacob, both of Commercial RC.
Congratulations on a great day's racing on Saturday, and many thanks for the support. It was a record entry.
The Time Trial is just the start of the new Ladder
The Ladder now proceeds with Challenge Races:
Scullers above 40th position on the Ladder may challenge any of the three scullers above them ;
Scullers 40th and lower may challenge 6 above; scullers 100th and below may challenge up to ten places above them
Every sculler is entitled to one Free Challenge per season
All Challenge Races must be umpired and timed, and a report completed;
Having an umpire is essential, to liaise with other users of the river, to ensure safety and to keep an accurate record of results.
Report forms are available from me, or from the Dublin Municipal Rowing Centre. Completed Reports should be returned to the DMRC.
There haven't been challenge races for the past few years, but the system is still there and the Overall Head of the Ladder and the Overall Fastest Women of the fortieth Ladder will not be decided until the last Saturday in March 2006.
During October only bracketed (marked =) scullers on the list above are treated as though on the same rung for challenging and being challenged - although all intermediate rungs count for those challenging past bracketed scullers. From November the brackets are removed, and the scullers will be in the order as printed, unless changes have happened in the meantime.
Statistics from this Time Trial:
Sixth time to break 100 finishers, and with the biggest entry to date.
A wet day threatened, but it was a beautiful day's racing.
Times were fastest in Section 1.
Women's finish time inside 1 min. of the Head winning time for the second time.
Anyone wanting copies of double runs may contact me by e-mail.
