NHTO Oliver!

Important cast notes:

Script read-through and mandatory full-cast meeting –

Monday, November 24 from 3:15-5:00 in the choir room.

Attendance is mandatory at this meeting; the consequence for not attending is that the actor forfeits his/her role.

Each of you has signed a contract that says you will attend 100% of rehearsals for which you are called. To ask to be excused from any single rehearsal for any reason other than illness or a college audition is unacceptable. You were given your role based on your promise that you will be there 100% of the time. If you cannot honor this promise, your role will be turned over to your understudy, who has also promised to be there 100% of the time. Presidents’ Weekend and all tech rehearsals are such serious commitments that a student may lose his/her role or place in the cast based on a single unexcused absence.

Lead characters: We expect that all hair, with the exception of Oliver and Dodger, will be in the color and style needed for your role in the show by the script read-through. If a wig is necessary, you must wear it to the read-through. If you do not honor this request, your role will be given to your understudy. We are very serious about this, as in the past students have not done as promised, and have shown up on stage with inappropriate hair color or style. To repeat: You are given this role with the understanding that your hair will be in the color and style needed for your role AT THE SCRIPT READ-THROUGH ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24. We WILL reassign your role if you do not follow this rule.

Students should remember these facts about casting any show:

1. Some factors are matters of talent and are within your own control. These include volume, diction, tone of voice, vocal performance, and preparation for the audition.

2. Some factors are beyond your control. Included in these factors are:

height, eye color, general demeanor/personality traits, whether the show choice has a role that is right for you.

3. Seniority and experience count a little. Generally, the actor chosen gave an audition that was superior to others who tried out for the same role. In a few instances, the auditions were of nearly equal quality, so the older and more experienced actor got the role.
