Newsletter Best Practices

The 90/10 Rule:

Balance your Newsletter content to be 90% educational and 10% promotional. Focus on sending your subscribers educational, relevant, timely information. However, when you do have exciting, big news about a product, service, or company update – share the benefits to them!

Use creative, unique subject lines:

Many organizations and marketers try to increase familiarity with Newsletters by keeping the same subject line with each deployment. Subject lines get old for subscribers because there is no incentive from the subjective line to click on that specific email right in that instant. A better approach is to try a different, creative, engaging subject line for each newsletter you send.

Choose one Call-to-Action:

There needs to be one primary Call-to-Action (CTA) or one action that you would like your audience to do in each email. If other CTA’s are included, they need to be less prominent and more of a “if you have time” option. Make it simple for your readers to know what you want them to do.

Keep copy and design concise:

Concise copy and white space are critical. The goal is to have the user click-through to areas where there is more content and where they can take that action.

·  Enlarge fonts

·  Simple layout

·  Streamline content

Sender Name:

Use a trustworthy and identifiable “From Name.” Typically emails come from companies and brands – If your subscriber doesn’t know whom an email is from the likelihood that they will open lessens.
