The purpose of this class is to give students an introduction to the presentation tools used by a set designer to convey his/her design ideas to the director of a show.

Various staging methods will be explored.

-Students will learn basic hand drafting and staging techniques to produce 3 floor plans for proscenium staging, arena staging and thrust staging. These floor plans will be for a show chosen by the instructor.

-Students will learn basic drawing techniques including but not limited to sketching, color, human figure drawing and perspective rendering. Each of these techniques will be applied to produce 3 perspective color renderings of their finished floor plans.

This section is taught by guest artist Jody Rigsby.


REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST

2- #2 pencils

1- Pink Pearl type eraser

-If you have colored pencils and would like to bring them

DPS Drama Standard addressed

Standard 3 Students understand and apply the creative process to enhance skills of design and technical theater.

GRADING

-Students will be given 10 daily points for being on time to class, preparedness and utilization of class time

-Students will also be graded on finished floor plans and color renderings of their set designs.

3pts- prepared for class

5 pts- utilization of class time

ABSENCE/TARDY POLICY

EVERY CLASS IS WORTH 10 POINTS. IF YOU ARE TARDY (EXCEPT WITH AN EXCUSED NOTE FROM A TEACHER OR OFFICE) YOU WILL LOSE 2 POINTS.

IF YOU HAVE AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE, YOU

WILL NOT EARN ANY POINTS FOR THAT DAY.

YOU WILL NOT EARN POINTS IF YOU ARE NOT ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN THE DAYS ACTIVITIES.

All tardies whether excused or unexcused MUST go through the front office.Students without a pass will not be admitted to class.
