Dog Owner Responsibilities

Food

Provide unlimited, clean water, and feed your dog healthy food. As a minimum, healthy food is a processed dry dog food that contains meat or fish as the first ingredient, as well as fruits, vegetables, and grains that are safe for dogs and in the appropriate proportions. The best healthy food is unprocessed raw and/or cooked meat or fish, fat, fruit, vegetables and grains that are safe for dogs and in the appropriate proportions.

At Home

House trained or adult dogs will not be kept in a crate while you leave the house. A crate with an open door is fine, but allow them to decide and move freely. Teethering a dog is not permitted.

Education

Use only positive training techniques with your dog. Discipline should be firm but gentle when you need to tell your dog that certain behaviours are not acceptable.

Attend at least one training class with your dog, between 6 and 12 months old, in which the Trainer uses only positive techniques. Provide us with the course certificate, within a couple weeks of completion.

Grooming

Use only combs and brushes on your dog that are meant for hair. Tools designed for 2 coated shedding type dogs should never be used on a PWD.

Take your dog to a groomer, who understands the coat of a PWD, before 4 months old. Your dog must be cleaned and groomed at least once a month. If you are not a groomer, you must take your dog to a groomer at least 3 times per year, as long as you have properly goomed your dog the other 9 months.

Vet

You are responsible for the 2nd puppy vaccinations and exam, 3rd puppy vaccinations and exam, and the 1 year old vaccinations and exam. Provide us with each of these Veterinary records within a couple weeks of each exam. If your puppy is with us during any of these timeframes, we will take your dog to our Vet and you can reimburse us.

Have your dog spayed/neutered by a Veterinarian before 12 months old. Provide us with the certificate within a couple weeks of the procedure.

Obtain a Certificate of Health and Vaccination for your dog, annually, for their lifetime. This means a Veterinarian examimes your dog annually. Vaccination boosters and pest control are given only as necessary, as agreed to between you and your Vet.

Other Important Notes of the Agreement:

We are transfering ownership of a dog to you and only to you. If you are ever unable to care for your dog, you do not have rights to give or sell the dog to any person or organization, other than back to us. We will give fair consideration to any person you wish the dog to go to. We are responsible to rehome our dogs. We will determine the refund amount to you, based on the cost required to rehome your dog.

If a Veterinarian diagnoses serious health issues for your dog, including, but not limited to life threatening diseases, under or over weight, malnutrition, matted and smelly hair, aggressive temperament, you are responsible to inform us and we will help you and your dog.

If you do not spay/neuter your dog within the agreed timeframe, ownership is immediately returned to us, unless we mutually agree to a new deadline.

If you knowingly or unknowingly breed your dog, you are responsible to inform us, and ownership is immediately returned to us.
